The difference between data entered thru the keyboard, and that entered thru code, is not in this instance, unique...for Memo Fields (Long Text, I believe, in later versions) can have up to 65,535 ...

BTW...the If Me.Dirty = True Then...End If is useless in the Form_BeforeUpdate event. If the Form isn't Dirty, the Form_BeforeUpdate event will not fire!

Does #Deleted really show if data is simply 'unavailable?'

You can't enter this in the AfterUpdate event on the Event Tab in the Properties box...it has to be entered as VBA code, in the Form's code module...as simply

As theDBguy said, you can use the AfterUpdate event of the Control holding your data to set the DefaultValue for the Field. From that time forward, until you either manually change the data or close...

Like Pat, I don't see a Table that looks appropriate for your Deployment Checklist...but, going by

it sounds as if you don't have a Field that is common to the assets Table and the checklist...
