Re: An open letter to Adam/vba_php

Adam, food for thought. The people whom you decry as "false teachers" would in fact claim that they ARE teaching God's word, and usually have a couple of divinity degrees (M.Div or D.Div) to back up...

Re: An open letter to Adam/vba_php

Adam, we are ALL "works in progress." Why do you think I am NOT excoriating you right now? All people are worth saving. The question is, "From what" - and the answer is not ALWAYS about sin.

As...

Re: An open letter to Adam/vba_php

Which leads me to the separate question: Adam, given the way that other forums have started reviewing and altering or even dropping your posts, have you come to realize that you are often your own...

Re: Thanks button doesn't show

One would wonder who might do that. Coincidentally, vba_php has ended his ban and has posted in the Watercooler. Not saying that the two events are related, of course...

Re: An open letter to Adam/vba_php

For me, Adam, the point of curiosity is a matter of whether you learned anything of value from the conversation. It is one thing to be in awe of someone. I've actually had that once, in college,...

Re: Inserting strings into variables - Syntax issue

OK, don't worry about this being a language issue. Trust me, we have worked with a lot of people with this language problem before. We can be patient.

This statement of yours contains the fine...

Re: Users Quit Program During Long Queries

Every now and then I would see that behavior but I think that was because of some competing process unrelated to Windows. The graphics processing would sometimes get skipped until the process ended....

Re: Users Quit Program During Long Queries

Yep, just a different kind of home-grown progress bar. I didn't use percentages, just solid bars, and I used a formula that was based on knowing exactly how many steps I would need (usually because...

Re: Intermittent Error

Concur with all the others who suggested it. Split your DB. I've had 15-20 simultaneous users on a database with little or no collision problems.

Just as a tip:

Normally, I believe the...

Re: Users Quit Program During Long Queries

Like Colin, I had problems with a few long-winded processes. For the ones that took a few seconds, I changed the color and caption of the command button from a basically pale aqua box around darker...

Re: Inserting strings into variables - Syntax issue

The trick for this, particularly for people still struggling with VBA, is "Divide and Conquer."

Break this up into elementary pieces rather than trying to run it all together in a single complex...

Re: Feature wish list (if we change forum platform)

It looks like I missed out on making some of those suggestions because I'm on the far side of the pond, Greenwich +5, so in this case I was snoozing while others chimed in. I have nothing to add...

Re: Access OOP examples wanted

I'm going to toss out a suggestion, to be acted on after a chance for folks to look at it and think about it. It might be a good idea to move MajP's examples into the forum's examples library under...

Re: Access 2010 slow on Windows 10

When trying to tune or identify system slowdowns, the general rule is as follows.

1. The slower the disk, the slower the system. If you can do so, try to look up the statistics on your disk...

Re: Export to Excel Template and Save As

Hey, bastanu - good suggestion! It would replace my step 3 in that loop with a non-looping operation. Faster and easier.

It's also an option I never had occasion to use in my Navy projects so I...

Re: Forum software change - yay or nay?

Though there is significant lag time, the fact that a server can be attacked means that one of the security companies will see a market for protection software.

Here is an armchair prediction for...

Re: Export to Excel Template and Save As

To use an existing template, you might need to use an Excel Application Object (which is a topic you can look up using the forum Search feature).

The catch is that I believe you cannot name TWO...

Re: Hello from PL/UK.

That headache is merely a steep learning curve as you start to lift off the engine cover. The deeper you get, the more there is to learn. But it is like peeling an onion. Access has got layers. ...

Re: Forum software change - yay or nay?

FWIW, the Navy Enterprise Data Center used to see those SQL Injections now and then. The patches that we had to install protected the DB engine as well as the app that used it, i.e. a multi-pronged...

Re: Re-using deleted primark key

Darn... and here I believed MS when some time ago they said you couldn't do that to an autonumbered field. Next thing you know they will make the 64-bit version break the 2 GB barrier.
