Also the invisible form will have mouse events - perhaps that could be translated into a scroll command for the pdf/web control

I have a possible solution for you if all you are trying to capture is the page number.

I was unable to disable mousewheel in the web control and page up/down went out of sync after a few pages...

using subqueries can be slow for large datasets - particularly in your case because you have a calculated value which does not have indexing. How big is your dataset?
