    Using And with Or

I used XOR in a database a long time ago when I found an OR operation failed. XOR will only return true if one of the conditions is true but not both.

    Using And with Or

No, my origial searchstr, without the addtional And condition worked fine, and still does. Pat's solution of parethesising that whole Or code worked too. Thanks for your input.

    Using And with Or

Thanks for that, Pat. I will fix the code with the advice from this forum and move on. My Boolean algebra faded away very quickly after I completed my apprenticeship in the 70s. I doubt I will try to relearn it all again. DaveE

Thank you for your replies. When my grandaughter has gone home I will try all the different methods. I'm just pleased that it's possible. DaveE

    Using And with Or

I wanted to search all the fields in a table for a keyword, as shown above. The code uses Or to allow it to find all instances of the keyword in the record. It works fine in the first example I submitted. Then I wanted to include or exclude archived records whether they contained the keyword or...

    Using And with Or

Hi DBguy Yes, I tried putting the additional condition in parentheses -"....or [Diseases] Like "*plant*" or [Comments] Like "*plant*" And (([Archived] = False))" But that didn't work. I'm sure it's something simple and I'll kick myself when I'm told the correct method...

    Using And with Or

Hi all, I have a VBA search string, called searchstr, which looks through all records for a key word. It works fine. The string uses all 'Or ' as in: Searchstr = "[LatinName] Like "*plant*" or [CommonName] Like "*plant*" or [Plantedin] Like "*plant*" or [PlantDesc] Like "*plant*" or [HardyRef]...

    The Queen has died

I get the impression from the news here in the UK that the Queen was overwhelmingly loved and respected. I feld a sadness when I heard she'd died that I didn't expect and, yes, you will hear some negativity around but really, do good folk really care about those? They have nothing worth considering.

    Random Crash of Access 2010

Thanks for the responses. I will take a look at Devhut.net and and see if it can help.

    Random Crash of Access 2010

That makes a lot of sense, Ranman. Any idea which update that was? Unfortunately, because I re-installed all of Office 2010 I have no update dates to work on. A KB******* number would help.

    Random Crash of Access 2010

OK, so I'm stuck. I have my database project (retirement pastime) using 2010 version and it's been fine through many years of development. However, in the last week or so, I've had the odd crash, when the db just closes with no warning. It always happens when I'm in Form View and...

    Omicron

Viruses don't deliberately 'overcome' their hosts as that is self-destructive. Sadly, for the virus, by gaining entry to survive they are, in a lot of cases, unwittingly killing their hosts. There are organisms that can thrive on another organism without detriment to either. I'm sure that...

I dont know if this is true or a joke

On Error Read Something Else It sounds like it's the same in the UK as it is in the US. It's nor whether you flash your headlights, but why. It is written, in the book that no-one reads, namely the The Highway Code, that flashing your headlights is only acceptable to let someone know that...

    Error Checking

I'm not sure I avoided error handling with a sense of pride. But I did take pride in the code I used to prevent errors and the resultant lack of errors reported by the users. I prefer my own method of - for every step that requires interaction with a user or any transfer of data, internally or...

And did her code work without errors? You didn't say.

    Error Checking

I learned Access db back in the mid nineties and have never used any error trapping other than my own input verification code. I've written dbs for the local university which turned into full estates applications used by many people from reception staff through to top managers without a hitch...
