I'm not entirely sure. That's why I said "regardless of whether it's intentional or not." :D

I think any film made with any basis on actual events is going to have some sort of bias, regardless of whether it's intentional or not. If you're going to watch a film like this (or about any other past event) the responsible thing to do is to take it as one side of the story, not as 100%...

    I never have understood this...

Lisa, I think we're in the same boat on this issue. It really isn't the money for me either, it's that the gov't is supposed to represent the people and those representatives are killing on the people's behalf. I agree with you that tossing people in prisons isn't going to solve the root...

So you have no problem providing the weapon, knowing it'll kill someone? ;)

But technically you're paying (via taxes) for the bullet and gun that kills them. I'd rather not have my money pay for something like that.

I'm not saying the prisoner has rights, per se. I think when I said rights in relation to the state, I meant how can they have a policy to take another person's life. It seems more like revenge than justice to me.

I'd rather not have my tax dollars go towards killing someone else. Edit: this is hypothetical in my case, since I don't pay taxes in the US.

    I never have understood this...

But what right does the state have to kill someone?

34% Dixie. I guess that makes sense, since I'm even further north than the Yankees. :D

I think it's mostly just a money-making device. They thought it was a good story so the figured they'd better make a film out of it. Sure, there will be people who think it's inappropriate but they can make their point known by not paying to see it. They make films based on other similar events...

    Guide to US tourists generally

Yeah, I can't stand the guy either. Norm McDonald and Kevin Nealon were WAY funnier.

Can't say that I've seen them.

    I see. ;)

    American Idol

It was actually a re-make of an old cartoon back in the early 60s. I don't know why I liked it so much -- I really can't stand most japanimation now.

    American Idol

Yup, most of them. I watched the Smurfs, had Snorks jammies, Thunder Cats and He-Man figurines and my sister had Rainbow Brite and Care Bear toys. :D I loved Astroboy as a kid as well.

    American Idol

I liked Deal/No Deal the first few times I saw it, and now it's just really repetitive and slow-moving. Give me my Amazing Race and I'll be happy. :D

    I hope he doesn't have a fan "club." :p

I wouldn't say most talented. More like "most able to be molded into whatever form the record labels think will sell records to the already watered-down and pathetic Top 40 market."

    Protests

Ken, I think the French labor protests you were referring to were these: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4851626.stm "Protesters are bitterly opposed to the First Employment Contract (CPE), which allows employers to end job contracts for under-26s at any time during a two-year trial...

    All good fun?

Colin, If using a hakapik or a rifle isn't effective enough in killing the seals, what do you suggest they use? I'm assuming that the hunters believe these are the most efficient ways to hunt these seals, so this is the method they use.
