Microsoft Windows / Office upgrade woes

Ok, so 2 (somewhat similar questions): 1. Is it advisable (or even legal) to store credit card information in an ecrypted ACCDB? 2. Is it acceptable in most jurisdictions to use encrypted ACCDBs for patient health records, which are privacy-protected by law? - If yes, then I will agree that...

Microsoft Windows / Office upgrade woes

Absolutely. Many Microsoft releases, including the HUGELY vaunted revamp of Access in the 2007 version include ridiculous errors that could have been caught in 15 minutes of beta testing. I didn't want to change the track of the thread (unless no one objects) but I have to weigh the security...

Microsoft Windows / Office upgrade woes

I know this is peripheral to your main point but what was the debacle of ACC2003 SP3 and the hotfix? I still use Access 2003. I don't want to change topic here by elaborating on why, but in one sentence: I have yet to see anything compelling in subsequent versions. If you look at the Access...

    Database Corruption

    1. Did you try replacing the front end that resides on her local computer? Maybe it got damaged and you can solve this by replacing it. The way I implement split databases is with a batch file on each computer that loads a new copy of the front end application from the server into the client...

calculate the driving distance between 2 zip codes

Good news! I followed the info from Jdraw and Colin and it's working consistently. I tested about 5 or 6 different addresses and it worked each time. Many thanks to both of you!

calculate the driving distance between 2 zip codes

Jdraw: Thanks for the research. It seems that Colin/Ridders/Isladogs has done some work using the Google Maps API using a key and the method using the key is inexpensive or doesn't cost at all. Would you happen to know if using the method with the key is the same as the previous method, but...

calculate the driving distance between 2 zip codes

Hi Jdraw It has been working until recently. I took a screenshot of an example and straight from the demo app that was posted mid-September. Please see attached. Thank you

calculate the driving distance between 2 zip codes

Does anyone know if this still works? I've been using it since 2015 and recently it's been inconsistent about being able to find addresses and routes. Thank you

    dbEngine(0)(0) vs Currentdb

After reading this thread, here's my non-scientific contribution: I have a routine in my program that was calls a function that was declaring db as CurrentDB at the beginning of the function. I tested this function setting the routine to do a task that would call the function about 2600 times...

FIFTY DAY STREAK - Duo Lingo

Over the past 3 years I have gotten to 100 a few times, then either because I just can't make the time OR because sometimes Duolingo just loses your streak, I've had to be reset. Have you finished all the "chapters" or are you still working on those? I started in Aug 2015 and finished in...

FIFTY DAY STREAK - Duo Lingo

This topic piqued my interest. I've been using Duolingo to study Portuguese since 2015 and it's actually been a great tool. It doesn't really teach you the grammar directly but I've definitely picked up a lot from the quiz-type learning that it offers. Enough to make me interested in getting...

    Unrecognizeable Database format 3343

There's good information about this Microsoft error on this blog: https://www.devhut.net/2018/06/13/access-bug-database-is-in-an-unrecognized-format/

Using Twilio with Access to send & receive text & voice messages

    1) Ampersand is not a common character. It HAPPENS to be that the company beta testing the SMS screens has an & in the company's name. 2) As far as the functions you used, if you used a URLencode function then it will convert the & and any other special characters so you might have gotten...

Using Twilio with Access to send & receive text & voice messages

To anyone using this solution, I just want to point out one small thing: I have a real user beta testing and she found that if she includes an ampersand in the message, anything after the & does not send as the POST command sees the & as a parameter marker. My solution is to make this simple...

    Front End Database and Users

Just to add a bit: - If you want a really good article explaining why and how to split, read Albert Kallal's explanation on the topic: http://kallal.ca/Articles/split/index.htm - One REALLY important point on that page if you don't read the whole thing is that you are going to want to keep a...

Using Twilio with Access to send & receive text & voice messages

Do you need a specific type of phone line or modem or does it just use the internet to send faxes? I don't know a lot about the topic.

Using Twilio with Access to send & receive text & voice messages

I couldn't agree more but there are MANY offices, especially in the medical industry, who are stuck in the 80s and use faxing far more than email. No problem. The answer is actually in the POST statement and on the blog. It's actually a simple Twimlet that converts a URL.

Using Twilio with Access to send & receive text & voice messages

Ok I'm just posting to say that I used your function and it worked out of the box. That's brilliant! Sooo....how do you pick up the call log? is it the same GET as to the SMS but to the /Calls URL? I see that Twilio has faxing as well. Have you seen code that can fax an Access report?
