Creating an Input Field in an Update Query

When you create your update query in design view, under the field you want to update, put [Enter Date] in the "UpdateTo:" line, and the "Criteria:" to "Is Null". By putting Enter Date in these brackets: [ ], this creates a prompt for user input. If you want your db to be a little more polite...

    One Liners; Tidbits; Wise Sayings

Never argue with an idiot, because onlookers will have trouble telling you apart. Never send an idiot to do a moron's job.

    Please help me understand this.

ok What you might want to try (someone correct me if there is a better way!!) is going into the design view of the query, and setting the criteria of the departmentID to the name of the textbox on the form (not subform) where it is displayed. This should filter the query results for the subform...

Limiting the number of available records in a table, and recycling/reusing them...?

Jeez... and I thought for sure this time I had explained myself well... haha Ok, This application is going to be linked to the db a posted here a couple weeks ago... This is basically the other side of that db. In the first one we were working with invoices associated with projects or SETRs...

    Please help me understand this.

A couple questions... Does every employee have at least one certificate? What kind of query are you using as the basis for the subform?

Limiting the number of available records in a table, and recycling/reusing them...?

Well boys and girls, its about that time in the week where I have once again come up with a brilliant application for my little Access project, but have no idea how to make it happen. I will start with a little background info... In the course of the parts recoveries we have different reasons...

Creating primary key values from field values?

OOooooOOOooo ZING!! Besides, I thought it was a valid question... Even if it wasn't really directed at anybody in particular. I was wondering if it was simply for visual identification that might just be printed in the corner of a report, or if it might be used as a historical...

How can I use a Form button or tab into a field to browse a table & select

It sounds like you want to use a subform... or maybe two; one displaying the entire music database, and one showing the selected records? I am not 100% sure about what you want it to accomplish though. You mention a table of music titles, and associated descriptor fields... Something that sorts...

Creating primary key values from field values?

So, if I understand correctly, it is simply a code for visual recognition by the users? If this is the case could it not just be displayed in a text box or label at the top of the form or report (whatever output they will be using), and then use an AutoNumber for unique IDs in the background?

Creating primary key values from field values?

Why do you want/need the primary key to be composed of elements from three different fields?

Combo Box won't update... and oh, how I have searched

See, having it explained like that, I now understand what was wrong... But for me, looking at the code is somewhat overwhelming, so I wouldn't have even thought to look for something like that. Thank you both very much!

Combo Box won't update... and oh, how I have searched

So the referential integrity has been compromised? How would that happen on its own? I tried changing frmInvoices to not be limited to data entry, but that didn't work either... I understand about the necessity for there to be a master record before there can be a child record, but what I...

Combo Box won't update... and oh, how I have searched

Sorry, I thought you were talking about tblSETRs, not tblInvoices... :o Do you mean the lookup tab at the bottom of the screen? For which field, SETR, Recovery Type, or Active? None of the fields are Lookup data type... Also, this is another area that I haven't looked into since I've been back...

Combo Box won't update... and oh, how I have searched

The relationship between the two tables has been there from the birth of this db. Hm. I don't have a good answer for you about the two PKs in tblSETRs... I think I mentioned in that queries thread you healped me out with that I recently came back to this department to find my little access...

Combo Box won't update... and oh, how I have searched

Turns out, its not working as perfectly as I thought... I only took a quick look at it yesterday, and everything seemed to be working. As it stands right now, I cannot add a new vendor invoice record, because it says there needs to be a corresponding record in tblSETRs. I don't understand... the...

That works perfectly! Thank you so much for taking the time to do that. I have a ways to go with my VBA... I am investing in a book or two tomorrow - that way I will be able to understand what the heck you did. Cheers!

Combo Box won't update... and oh, how I have searched

I tried that... a couple different ways. I have it working that the project management form opens, and you can set the project as active... Its just that when you get back to the combo box, it wont allow a requery so the newly activated project does not show up. The only way it does is by...
