Help needed in designing a database

I have read all the comments with interest. The only thing I can see which is overlooked is estimated readings. You need a field (binary) for this. Otherwise you will get caught sooner or later.

    Reference calendar

Activ X controls on the toolbox for form design and select calendar should do the trick.

    Wizards

Sorry, I was muddled in my question. What I meant was has any one any experience/tips in writng new wizards rather than using them. I imagine a few other people might also be interested in this are.

    Please support these forums

Links added to Web Directory and links page of www.nhfc.co.uk This is our retail website though I am not sure how many customers for vitamins and lentils will actually make the link. Pleased to help as it is a very valuable resource.

    Database design - car mechanic

As I understand it an MOT relates to a car NOT a customer. The current layout will cause confusion if a customer changes cars or has more than one. How about starting with one for for each table? That is simple and easy to understand and you will see if you have got the correct details and...

    Primary Key Limitation

Go back to single PK before it or you falls over. If you cannot add an autonumber PK to the jobs table then use a full date and time as PK. It is very unlikely that two jobs will be created to the second and if you make it unique the second job will have to be later to be accepted.

Import CSV File From Database PRO to Access: Unusual Record Splitting Problem

My way out when these things don't go as I expect is to use samller steps. Bring the csv file into an access table as is. Then use standard access to put the data where you want it with update queries.

Hypothetical: Structuring a sm/med business' data infrastructure...

Another member of my family has good experience upgrading from Access to Oracle so you could look at Oracle for accounting. My guess is that it is not a cheap option but at least you will not create a ceiling for expansion. Also suggest that you ask your accountants what they are happy to...

    Wizards

I have never used wizards with access (or anything else for that matter). What is general view? Are they actually good news or do they get binned with witches and warlocks? I could use some of the techniques involved but where does one find an intro - preferably using access.

Update all records with random value ?

Ok, I don't think you will do it with a query but I admit to not having tried that hard. Could you generate a temporary linked table with just the primary key and a random autonumber then you could use that in the query. The answer to the range question is that most pseudo random generators...

Update all records with random value ?

I think that what you want is to select 10% of the records at random for some sort of test or processing. The easiest way is to use an autonumber field which you can set to random. This will attach a random number when the record is created. You can then use your query to select a different...

Linking a form to multiple tables

I think Banana has covered the recordsets better than I would have. The main trouble is that there are so many types and versions that you need a book to cover everything. One thing I would add. I would create a table with all the fields the form needs and then write a record to that from the...

    Compact and Repair

Very useful discussion so far. Anyone care to answer the other part - about what does repair and compact actually do. I've wondered for a while.

Linking a form to multiple tables

If you are determined to avoid a query (which I assume includes SQL) then I think you will have to do it by opening the recordset for each individual table and retrieving exactly what you want. I hope the result will be worth all the trouble!

    Colour Palettes

There seems to be a general view that the palettes would be welcomed but no one has offered guidance as to how to proceed with actually making the html code available to the forum. Here is the address for the colour palettes http://www.caws.uko2.co.uk/palettes.htm If giving such an address is...

Is this a Querie or Sorting problem?

I think maybe Dia1, Dia2 etc are diameters at different points on the same die. If that is the case then it makes sense to have them in the same record. I would use them to store the maximum wear tolerance. Then you have an inspection table which has same ID (so that you can link the two) and...

    Colour Palettes

Just checked to be sure. The palettes are in hex, and a hex decimal convertor is provided for people not happy to use hex.

    Colour Palettes

No it's not an actual db. It's html pages. it can be used for colour selection anywhere as you just pick the RGB values that you want.

    Struggling with TimeValue

Try creating a calculated column TimeValue(thotime) and then filtering on this column #07:00# Seems the simplest way to me.

    Colour Palettes

I have some colour palettes which make it much easier to design colour schemes for forms reports etc. These may be useful to users of this forum. I can post a web address for them or they could be put up in this forum somewhere. Not sure of the protocols about doing this. They are freeware...
