Remove "" from a field name

    Is there some reason why Replace(FieldName,Chr(34) & Chr(34) & Chr(34), "") is not satisfactory?

    Back End Paths

I don't do anything. If the back end is not found for one or more linked tables, I ask the user to locate the back end using my Reconnect utility (http://dfenton.com/DFA/download/Access/Reconnect.html). I don't pre-load a path, or store a text file or write anything to the registry or anything...

    Mark records as "sent"

A more complete Jet Replication source is the Jet Replication Wiki: http://dfenton.com/Replication/ There are a number of things that much of the documentation for Jet replication fails to caution about. The Jet Replication Wiki makes it clear what works and what doesn't.

Why does adding MsgBox change my results?

Re: Why does msgbox seem to change my subroutine? I don't really think this is an Access issue. It's an automation issue with an outside library, and maybe you should ask your question in the forum for programming Acrobat from VB/VBA.

ACCESS 2007 and Sharepoint WSS 3.0

You might want to wait a few months for this, as Sharepoint 2010 has a number of significant performance enhancements that make large Sharepoint lists usable without the massive performance hit. As to using the runtime, I'm pretty sure the features should still be available with it, but as I've...

Please critique my proposed method of replication

Indirect replication is, indeed, tricky to set up. But it's the only way to synchronize safely across non-LAN connections.

Can a Query call a Statement?

You're right about RTrim() vs. Trim(). I didn't read the original post carefully. Personally, paths and filenames with *any* spaces in them annoy the hell out of me -- I don't use them ever. But I don't force that preference on my users.

Please critique my proposed method of replication

Direct replication opens the remote replica across the wire, i.e., pulls 100% of its data across the network connection to the RAM of the computer on which you are initiating the direct synch. This is fine in a LAN situation, as LANs are fast enough and reliable enough that you'd seldom have a...

Can a Query call a Statement?

Your code for stripping the leading and trailing spaces could be a lot simpler if you used Split() to chop up the path into an array, then use Trim() on each element of the array and re-assemble the results.

Please critique my proposed method of replication

Over a slow WAN you don't want to do direct synchronizations. You really need indirect. Let me suggest that you avoid replication entirely and instead get the app hosted on a Windows Terminal Server. Then when A2010 is out, you can port to a Sharepoint-based synchronizing app and not have any...

Database Replica, Copy, Back End, Wah?

Replication cannot even be used for data if it's a mix of A97 and later versions, since a replicated data file is editable only in a version of Access that is matched to the Jet version of the replica. That is, a Jet 3.5 replica is editable in Access 97, but not in any later version. Sounds...

Trouble with Syntax for DSum in Form

Replication IDs require special handling in Access. Details here: http://trigeminal.com/usenet/usenet011.asp?1033 Basically, you have to use the conversion functions, GUIDFromString() and StringFromGUID() to get results. The "nice" thing about that is that it's hardly ever predictable where...

I've never heard of nor experienced such a thing in 14 years of professional Access development.

The dreaded question about questionnaire database

The only way I can think to do the paper form replication is with an unbound form. It might be possible to get repeating rows in a subform by embedding a form in the subform, set the first-level subform to be datasheet, and the second level to be single form. This would mean you'd avoid the...

The dreaded question about questionnaire database

If you control design of the paper form, I'd say it should be designed to reflect the UI of the data entry application. If you don't have control of the form, then you'll always be chasing a moving target, and I say model the survey and not the physical tool used to collect the responses. As...

Setting Invoice Numbers to Start At .....

I didn't bother to say anything about the inadvisability of it for an invoice number because that would have been repetitious -- others had already explained why it's not a good idea. But there are cases where you may very well need to do what I outlined for legitimate reasons, and so I felt it...

I'm not trying to justify anything. I'm attempting to give you ADVICE on how to get the best answers. The people who are going to help you are human, and they can miss details just like I did. I was not intending to say it was unreasonable for you to have posted that way, just that there are...

Setting Invoice Numbers to Start At .....

You actually need to add only one record, with the value for the Autonumber field of 39,000, and then delete that one record. Many people think you can't append a value to an Autonumber field, but that is not correct at all. An Autonumber is really little more than a long integer field with a...

Paste Link code (Excel to PPoint)

You're perhaps assuming too much about the context in which people read your posts. I run a search on particular search terms, and tend not to notice the actual subject headings (particularly parentheticals). I have also noticed that it's just a good idea to repeat any crucial parameters that...

Paste Link code (Excel to PPoint)

I just noticed that your subject heading says "Excel to PPoint". I read this site under the assumption that since it's doman name is "access-programers.co.uk" it's a site devoted to Access, so when a post doesn't involve Access, I might give an inapplicable answer, as in the case, i.e., citing a...
