    structure of a table

I realize about the names of tables, I just threw the example together. What aspect of this is too problematic? He acknowledges the fact that he might have to add fields to the table potentially in the future, but he is concerned about a HUGE crossreference table. Might you have any links to...

    structure of a table

I was having a discussion with a friend of mine about this... and I couldn't come up with the best explination. Hopefuly someone here can point me in the right direction. He has a table Recipies(Id, name, item1, quantity1, item2, quantity2, item3, quantity3, item4, quantity4) I don't believe...

Known issue? Inserting jpg AC97 (on 98/XP)

I have a database that stores employee information. AC97 database on Win 98. One of the fields is a picture. It's a Bound Object frame. Now I'm having problem "Inserting Object" from any Windows XP running AC97. Is this because WinXP might be interpeting the .jpg different then Win98? When...

    occasional #error from datediff function

Awesome!!! exactly what the problem was. Under Regional and Language Options - Customize - Date tab Format properties of short date. sure enough it was M/D/yyyy modified it to mm/dd/yyyy and everything works now! woohoo thanks! -Mike

    occasional #error from datediff function

Maybe this is just with over versions of access but I noticed if you simply type mm/dd it will, by default, throw in the current year. Since I'm just looking at a Month/day comparison, I do not care about the year. But on some select PC's this doesn't work... Again, I think it's simply the...

    occasional #error from datediff function

Ok. that worked. I figured out what the problem is. For some reason Access is dropping ANY zero's from the dates. when using: Format([birthdate], "mm/dd/yyyy") it forces it to put back in the leading zeros. For me to go through EVERY reference of any date fields in all my...

    occasional #error from datediff function

I can try that... but the crux of my problem isn't that particular funciton. It's the fact that my code/function/expressions work for 98.5% of all the computers here. yet there are a couple where I see erratic results! I'd rather look to fix the PCs then re-write expressions for only 2 PCs.

    occasional #error from datediff function

A little more info: in a query on the same PC. With the expression: Left([birthdate],5) I expect to get a return value of MM/DD. Yet my values are all over the place on this PC: sometimes I get a 1/1/2, sometimes it spits out a correct result 10/11. It appears as if the PC is dropping the...

    occasional #error from datediff function

I've seen this a few times on random PCs running AC97. A calculation that works properly using multiple datediff functions giving a result of #ERROR even though it does in fact work properly on all other computers. I'm trying to nail down why this happens on only SOME records, on one or two PCs...

referencing a field in a subform

Ok, I got this to work.. woohoo. Thanks for the helping hand. It's funny, I never use the "expression builder" anymore, but I will look towards it for hints in the future! Thanks -Mike

referencing a field in a subform

I'm trying to reference a field in a subform to assist a query I'm writing on the form to populate a list box. The help info is not very helpful in assisting me. taken from the Access 97 help files: To refer to a subform or subreport Refer to the subform or subreport control on the form or...

    Only Allow Caps

wow... yea that was. heh. I guess I too it too simplistic of a method with the input mask. but I like the procedural solution - works for a much wider range of fields.

    Only Allow Caps

use an InputMask with a "\" "to cause the character that follows to be displayed as the literald character." example: Input Mask: 0\Ø0\w sample data: 3Ø4w In this example I wanted to show the phase and the wattage. I wanted to also store this information in the table. For your situation...

what happens when you run that query by itself? will it run correctly? It sounds as if it might be corrupted.

    Fixing a corrupt file

just some ideas for future issues. Sometimes it's a particular object that is corrupted and you're unable to modify/delete/move it. A solution that I've found to work is to recreate the database. Create a fresh, new database; import as many objects as possible from the old database, and the...

    Corrupt DB

hm, yet I looked at the .ldb and found nothing. And I checked on the File server and there were no open files there. Something intersting... a number of "system tables" where all messed up after I repaired it. I ended up recreating the database. Dumping all created structures/data in to a...

    Corrupt DB

Ok, I've seen this quite a few times and I've been unsuccessful in fully restoring the database after an error like this. AC97 The database shows up that it needs to be repaired. When I attempt to repair it I get the following error: "Couldn't use Prospect 2.mdb. file already in use." Yet...

    FE version check

Given this type of setup, how would I update/add additional fields to the tables in the BE? I'm thinking I'm going to have to toss everyone out of the system in order to make this modification. -Mike

    FE version check

Oh I know that. I ment it in a tongue-n-cheak sort of way. My mantra when someone asks if it can be done is : " Sure, anything CAN be done pretty much in Access, how long do you want to wait for it to be implementated though?" Thanks for all the feedback on this situation! I'll start...
