Thanks for the good ideas. Updates current: Win 7 Pro SP1, Office 2007 SP3, Windows Update is happy. Let the hung loop run for 50 minutes; still hung.

    Unable to open code window

Tried repairing the Office 2007 install; same problem. Next, uninstalled both Office 2010 and Office 2007, then reinstalled 2007. Same problem with Access 2007: any attempt to open the code window goes into a nonresponding loop. Also tried opening with the shift bypass, then using the...

    Question Microsoft Public Access newsgroups?

Would someone please update me: I have in the past used Outlook Express to post to Access newsgroups on msnews.microsoft.com. Especially the 18 or so at microsoft.public.access.*. It seems they have disappeared, along with Outlook Express. Are they defunct?

    Unable to open code window

:confused:OK, did the trusted locations. Still have same problem. Why would BOTH Access 2007 AND Access 2010 refuse to open a code window, when Access 2003 works just fine? Running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, 8 megs RAM.

    Unable to open code window

Haven't done anything with trusted locations. Is this a necessary prerequisite for using Access 2007? The procedures at technet for configuring them look pretty involved to me.

    Unable to open code window

With both Access 2007 and 2010 I am unable to open the VBA code editor. In each, I click Create >> Module or VBA Code and Access goes into a non-responding loop. Access 2003 works OK. Advice appreciated. Mark Hammer, Spokane, WA, US.

Shell error #5 with Vista 64 bit

I am getting Error Number 5: Invalid Procedure Call or Argument upon executing the shell command. Strangely, this happens only on a Vista Ultimte 64-bit computer. The exact same command in the same procedure/program works without error when run under either Windows XP or Vista 32-bit. Also...

Solved Error 3343: Unrecognized database format

For future reference: Error 3343: Unrecognized database format: Searches for the solution to this led me down several blind alleys. The problem was a corrupted back-end database, and a compact-repair on that data file fixed it. Using Access XP here. --Mark Hammer Lake Oswego, Oregon, U.S.

Question Can't edit XP command bars under Vista

Working with Access 2002, installed on a Vista Ultimate computer. Every time I modify a custom toolbar in an Access 2002 database, Access crashes. The crash happens on the close of the Customize dialog box, and the dreaded "Problem with Access 2002" message (pdf copy attached) appears. This...

    Get path to msaccess.exe?

Can someone tell me the way to retrieve the path to msaccess.exe? I suppose you'd have to specify the version as well. I know the default path, but would like something that would work if they've installed it to a different directory. TIA, Mark Hammer Lake Oswego, Oregon, U.S.
