Data transfer between tables with auto numbering PKI.

Well, thats it, mystery cleared, SQL doesnt except the PK because they are random generated numbers. I cleared the orig. PK column, setting up a new one, using incremental mode. No more problems to upload the data from Access into SQL.

Data transfer between tables with auto numbering PKI.

Hi Hell, Thanks for taking the time to try this out. I can use yr method at home but unfortunately at work I have the same problem as datAdrenaline, the only tool CIO allows to use is the Analyzer (SQL Server 2000), even so only on the test SQL Server environment . When we go over into...

Data transfer between tables with auto numbering PKI.

Hi Hell, Looking at the amount of your precious time you spend on helping other people with their problems you surely don’t need to apologize because you are busy.

Data transfer between tables with auto numbering PKI.

Hi Hell, The new small Access db with auto nbr random PK tables I built went thru the Access build in Upgrade Wizard, generating the SQL db. Executing an append-query transferring the data from the Access tables to the linked the SQL tables, the PK column data changes, confirming the former...

    Cursor With Dyncamic SQL

Hi Wayne, I am afraid I didn’t understood exactly all details of your problem, but it should be somewhat similar to the procedure I use to transfer data from one db to another. First I do not export/import, just link tables, so org. and dest. tables stay side by side in the same db. One can...

Data transfer between tables with auto numbering PKI.

Hi Hell, thanks once again for being interested in my problem(s).:) Well unfortunately it looks like that I am a good producer of things that never happened before, this is the second time since I started using SQL a MVP states such a thing. Not an SQL Server expert at all, I just want to...

Data transfer between tables with auto numbering PKI.

Hi, back again with one more trouble. While there is no problem with data transfer between 2 Access tables with auto numbering PKI - Access keeps the key values equal in the 2 tables - when transferring from Access to Sql Server, the latter generates its own values in the PKI column, so you no...

Upgrading to SQL Server generates an IDENTITY col. causing trouble @ uploading.

Hi Hell, Thank you for replying. As a matter of fact, I normally use access tables with integer /auto number primary key on them, at least 50% of the tables have auto number PK. Therefore it still puzzles me why out of 72 upgraded tables only 2 of them come up with runtime error #3622 when...

Upgrading to SQL Server generates an IDENTITY col. causing trouble @ uploading.

Hi, After upgrading the Access backend to a SQL Server backend, running an upload of the data from Access to SQL Server, 2 tables of the total of 72 tables reject the load because of an IDENTITY column and stay empty. Comparing with other tables, I cannot find any reason why this 2 tables were...

Trouble with DoCmd.TransferDatabase acLink, "ODBC Database"

I am testing my Access application with Access FE / SQL Server BE in my home computer (all SW in the same PC) There is no problem in linking the BE manually to the FE, however when I try this through VBA programming, I get the error 2507 (Db type ODBC Database not installed / doesn’t support...

What happened to the queries after upsizing to SQL Server?

Just one more feedback. I did the upgrading over once more, however this time I didn’t delete the Access BE links before linking to the SQL Server. I kept them, so the FE was linked to the Access BE and the SQL BE at the same time. I did this because I wanted to experiment updating of an...

What happened to the queries after upsizing to SQL Server?

Just some feedback. I proceeded this way, may be you have a brighter idea. I stored all the query.Name and query.SQL in a Table y_Queries (QueryName(txt),QuerySQL(memo)), copied the Table into the SQL Linked BE, deleted all the queries there and restored them from y_Queries. I had some problems...

What happened to the queries after upsizing to SQL Server?

Great idea Banana, you made my day, I will loop through the queries and save them, thanks a lot.:).

What happened to the queries after upsizing to SQL Server?

I agree that Access does some guessing, but rather rarely, only if no relationship is defined. As soon as a relationship is defined, guessing stops, and Access constructs the right join. More, if I switch BE dbs – I always switch between corporate LAN BE and local Test BE – whatever join was...

What happened to the queries after upsizing to SQL Server?

Well that’s the point, that’s what I was afraid of, I will have to compare 150 queries, looking how they were originally and than linking them again. (That’s why I like Access so much; of course it has its weak points, but no doubt Access should be a standard for SW user-friendliness.) If...

What happened to the queries after upsizing to SQL Server?

Well, Banana, you just raised a nice question, does the Access Wizard import relationships? Who can answer this? But thinking a little further, this does confuse me. The Wizard transforms Access in SQL, as a matter of fact, the existing relationships went into the SQL Server. eg ALTER TABLE...

What happened to the queries after upsizing to SQL Server?

George, I really liked you being confused about the vanished links. Its in fact hard to accept this. Just go to my initial mail and you will see the sql expression of a Query before and after upgrade. The latter has no relationship anymore.

What happened to the queries after upsizing to SQL Server?

Hi Banana! Going through discussion groups, gathering info, is such a great help that I went through a lot of discussions when the idea came up to upgrade the Access BE to SQL Server. As a result, I got the impression that normally an application will work with minor changes, eventually or...

What happened to the queries after upsizing to SQL Server?

Hi George, Thanks for your reply. No doubt about the fact that the BE has to take care of RI, this with or without SQL. What fails now is that Access FE no longer knows about the relationships between the tables – at least that is what I am experiencing. As I said, I have about a 150 so...

What happened to the queries after upsizing to SQL Server?

In the mean time, missing the experience with SQL Server, I decided to install the SQL Server in my home Desktop, and see what happens if I convert the Access BE to SQL, far away from the corporate environment. To my great deception, :( after “upgrading” the Access dB into the SQL Server, and...
