    HBO's DEADWOOD!

Never saw Deadwood, but have been meaning to check it out... One that I wish hadn't been cancelled is Firefly. It's kind of a sci-fi/western, by Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy & Angel. They only got one season before it got cancelled, BUT the fans generated enough interest that a movie...

    Combining tables in a query

Something like this: SELECT [5480 Master Data].name, [5480 Meal Collection].phonenumber FROM [5480 Master Data] LEFT OUTER JOIN [5480 Meal Collection] ON [5480 Master Data].name = [5480 Meal Collection].name; An inner join will only give you records where both sides have a result (so, only the...

    Who closed the thread?

I have a counter-proposal: Keep politics in the politics forum! Stop it invading the 'Cooler! Cool, where can I get one! :p Well you're making an effort to clean up the forums... :D (just don't shrink it in the dryer!)

    RIP Peter Brook

As stated in the other thread, Irwin turned down the state funeral. They are having (have had?) a private funeral, and are having a public memorial, at Australia Zoo of course. Tickets went on sale today. I believe Brock was offered a state funeral, can't remember what the response was. That...

    Wireless Networking

Go for 802.11G (54Mb) speed. Also known as 54G. 108UltraG is the same but I think uses 2 channels simultaneously (if both ends support it). Make sure it can support WPA security (in fact, WPA2 is the new one). The older security scheme, WEP, can now be cracked in minutes (or was it seconds?)...

    The Green Lamp

We're quite possibly already looking at stars that don't exist, and just don't know it... Think about how many light years away they are. Even the closest is, what, tens of lightyears? The furthest, I have no idea. Thousands at least. Say a star is 100 light years away. It will take light 100...

    RIP Steve Irwin

The reason it's been suggested is because of the amount he's done for tourism and wildlife preservation. On those grounds, I don't see a problem with it. He's also been nominated for Australian of the year... call me cynical, but I don't know if he would have been nominated if he was still alive...

    Halloween at the Office

We don't tend to do halloween here in Australia. My wife is a mad keen costumer though, so we go to lots of costumed events/parties... and we're in a medieval re-enactment group. So, we mostly do medieval (duh!) and science fiction. Probably not that easy to do, especially in an office...

    RIP Steve Irwin

The thing is, stingrays aren't usually that dangerous. There has been a total of 3 people killed by stingray in Australian waters. Ever. (well, ever recorded...) So at the time he was killed, he was not taking unreasonable risks.

    US TV decency

She was clearly talking about a relative of the donkey, and a species of bird... "I nearly went donkey over bird" :p oh, and you Brits can't complain too loudly... remember Australian Tourism's "Where the bloody hell are you?" ads
