Sorry for coming back to this thread so late.:o
I've made no changes to the database recently (will do before Christmas), but overall, performance hasn't been terrible. I know I need to address some issues, but I have more pressing ones to attend to.
As security issues weren't seen as a...
Ditto. Sorry for being late in saying 'Happy Birthday'! I hope you had a lovely day.:)
My fingers are crossed for your wife Brian; I hope her surgery is successful and that she recovers quickly.
Very true. One could possibly see it as stealth privatisation... I wonder which other parts of the NHS will be outsourced next.:(
Aside from future doom and gloom, there is perhaps an overall bright side to this particular outsourcing; service level agreements. Now, when various systems go...
I tried to post yesterday, but the forum appeared to be having problems.
I'll give you some background to this. And yes, Galaxiom, I work for the National Health Service. Hence my tale of woe...
I was asked to create a new db soon after I applied for this job in May. A...
Thanks for your replies.
Re: installing the FE locally on users' machines. While I get that this isn't really an 'installation' as such, we're not allowed anything; not even one measly Word doc to be stored on our machines. There would be a lot of machines to install on, so I'd suspect that IS...
Thanks RG and Dave; there's an awful lot of info in those links and I expect there's quite a lot of optimisation I can do.
I see the problems now with users accessing one, shared FE on the network. I'm stumped as to what I can do to get around this. While I've not tried to do it, all...
Thanks for your replies. I'll start with a question. With a split db, as I understand it, I've two options. I can either use a FE which all users access in a shared network folder, or I install FE's on individual users' machines. If I've got this wrong, please tell me.
Presuming that it is a...
I've an unsplit db on a network which is being used by several people. When the db went live, I did split it, however, diabolically slow network speeds meant that after 5 minutes, there was no guarantee that a form would load... More often than not, Access crashed. So, I reverted to an...
Aye, we're permanently in Newcastle now; I don't think I could face travelling any distance with a toddler. When he's a bit older, I'll think about it!
And you may be seeing more of me now that I'm using Access again at work... My memory is somewhat rusty!
Well, there are plenty of fools around here! :D Oo-arrrrr! I jest, but am glad that ye pirates still celebrate Pirate Day. I'm only late here as some rapscallion corsair sank my ship! Arghh!
Usually, roundabouts are considerably more expensive than signals, which is why signals are so common - both in the UK and in France. Unless you're talking about mini-roundabouts, which are dirt cheap. It's not uncommon for a roundabout to cost £30k, and signals £15k.
As for friendliness...
Pie was Andrew's idea, but given that we're doing a lot of maths at present on the course, Pi seemed more apt. ;)
And yes, we'll both be back at uni full time after the birth (due date 08/08/08), and will hopefully work once we hopefully get our degrees. I don't have any choice about leaving...
