Table design on an issues database

Hi, One other comment, if I may throw in my two-cents worth. I would use a number field instead of the Yes/No field. You could use 1 for Yes and 0 for No. I read somewhere that the Yes/No data type in Access 2007 can slow things down in a multi-user environment. Just a thought.

    Help detecting Idle Time

Thanx again for your time, I'm using Access 2007 with winXP service pack 3, and I have downloaded the updates for Access, (which allows scrolling through code :) )yippee!). The line where it breaks is ActiveFormName = Screen.ActiveForm.Name The database was not set to break on unhandled errors...

    Help detecting Idle Time

Hi people, I got this code from an MS help website, (can't remember where). It detects the User's idle time and closes Access if there is no screen activity for four minutes. It works great if the user doesn't open a report. It looks for the last ActiveForm and compares to the current. But when...

Bob Larsons FE Auto Update Utility

Wow George, didn't know you prowled these halls. I had corrected my mistake earlier in this post, which you may not have seen, but I meant every word regarding the value of your book for anyone starting out in Access databse design. Excellent.

    Snapshot tables

Great! Isn't it funny how while looking for solutions to problems, we tend to overlook the simplest. I hadn't thought of that, yet now you mention it, it's the obvious thing to do. Thanx a million WayPay

Bob Larsons FE Auto Update Utility

Thanx for the replies people. I was interested in the multi FE scenario for the same reasons Gary is. As far as modifying Bob's FE updating tool Rabbie, I looked at that myself, and I thought that the Module may need modication in as much as, an If...Then statement, to see which Front End's ID...

Bob Larsons FE Auto Update Utility

I agree that it would take a good deal of time and effort to upgrade it to an SQL sever but I have am willing to dedicate myself to it anyway. If you have time to take a look at my table design/relationships, please look at the attached screenshot. tblPurchaseOrders has a field "POnumber" and...

Bob Larsons FE Auto Update Utility

Glad you didn't take offense at my slip-up George. It's hard to inflict tone of voice with text on plain background, anyways, thanx for your input. I have also looked at restricting functionality by use of the windows logon name, but that still means having a lot of forms, reports, queries etc...

Bob Larsons FE Auto Update Utility

WOW! I feel honoured that the man who is responsible for me believing that I could develop a database in the first place, has answered a humle post of mine. Thank You. If anyone starting out, wishes to know the fundamentals of database structure and the pitfalls to avoid, you MUST read "Grover...

Bob Larsons FE Auto Update Utility

Thanx for the reply, I'm glad it works well for you. I can see the way it would work with 1 Master FE on the server and a copy of it on the users workstation, but would I be able to configure say, 3 or 4 different Master FE's on the Server along with a single BackEnd?

Bob Larsons FE Auto Update Utility

Hi there I would like to see if I understand this correctly. I have a Backend on a Server, and I have two Frontends (different names) that I wish to connect to that single Backend. Would I be able to use Bob Larson's FE Auto-Updating Utility to update the different Frontends as and when they...

    Snapshot tables

Thanx Spoole, I had thought of that, but I am unsure of how I would collate the data needed in reports. Say, for shipments made to a specific customer, or for outstanding orders. Outstanding orders for example would have to collect data from what was shipped against a particular order, from when...

    Snapshot tables

Hi there, First let me thank all who have helped me build a functional Sales/Shipping/Orders database. I could not have done it without the generous help from people on this forum, and a couple of good books. Presently; I have one main table, where the day to day data-entry is entered...

Please help with sum on Form or advise if a better way

Hi, It looks like you seem to be applying a spreadsheet approach to the design of your database. Databases and Spreadsheets are structured entirely differently. How many tables do you have in your database? Are they "normalised"?

    Unique prevent records duplication

Hi, Have the [DateTimeOut] , and [DateTimeIn] fields prodperty's in the table structure set to Now(). On the form where you actually enter the Time Out and Time In, have the properties of the text boxes set to "MediumTime" with an input mask allowing only times such as "10:05" etc entered. If...
