    Predicate for non-updateable query...

Okay, it may seem like a silly question for one who's been using this as long as I but I was just curious if anyone had a concise answer as to the predicate for a non-updateable query? Today I think I decided to stop using a workaround by creating a temporary table with duplicate information...

    What phone(s) do you have?

I've been darn tootin' happy with my Sanyo 4900. I bought it right after they stopped making the monster and had to hit 10 different stores to find it but the phone has served me well for years. As far as I understand, with average non-world consumer phones, it still is the reigning champion in...

    Error Expected: )

Thank you both SJ and Louie. I think I understand it a bit better. ~Chad

    Error Expected: )

Hmm... I thought that it would be able to determine the two strings from delspec("8$5AD%Q#F","%$#/.'") As being: "8$5AD%Q#F" as the string to be searched and scrubbed and "%$#/.'" as the string of special characters to remove, separated by the comma between the two quotations. Is this any...

    Error Expected: )

Actually, sadly enough, my experience with this is just limited enough that I was executing the function the immediate window improperly (with a space bewteen ? and delspec()). Once I figured that out I ceased having the Expected error, but I was being given Null returns so it's still broken...

    Error Expected: )

Thank you Louie! Back in the office today so I think I'll try it. I'm just curious, however, what I might have done wrong or where my logic was in error? Trying to learn this vba thing so if anyone might have an explanation it would really help. Thanks again, ~Chad

    Error Expected: )

Well, here it is folks--my first official foray into a piece of my own code... and it flopped with an 'Expected: )' error! But, I can feel how close I am and though I'd ask around for a little help. Basically, I'm trying to create a function that will evaluate a list of special...

Office Pranks - April Fools is coming

Ken could appreciate this one. Back before I was a city-boy I was a midwestern southern-missouri boy. One of the more entertaining pranks is to let two greased pigs loose into an area with a 2 painted on one of them and a 3 painted on the other. After much difficulty both pigs will be caught...

    Simple dlookup alternative question

Hey. Not a skilled vba user but needing something done right so here I am. Basically, I'm in need of a string variable that is sourced from a query joining two fields. The join merely provides supplies an 'abbr' (abbreviated name) to a number 'id' from a forgein table. I did some reading and...

    It's a three-fer: A Cancel Button!

Good morning all. Todays ponderance involves a print form I've been devising. (It's included in a small sample) You see, we have a major report that about 25 different people try run at different times with different criteria. All of the criteria that changes (mostly just a year in this case)...

    Combo-Box source query issue

Ahh, that comma was actually just a code pasting issue as I simplified it for posting by taking out a couple fields that had no real bearing to the discussion... However... Rich, your fix worked like a gem! Thank you so much! ~Chad

    Combo-Box source query issue

Hiya! So, I have a form with a cascading combo-ish type solution. In actuality it's an option group that helps feed a combo-box. The option group, however, is unbound and the two choices represented in it span several choices elsewhere. The field I'm reducing with a cascading solution is my...

    Report Detail Size limitation workaround

Ahh, the magic of today's query: Anyone have an idea how to work around an apparent size limitation on the detail section of my Access 2000 report? Right now it stops at 22 inches and, while I already have my 30 or so nested subreports, I need to fit in about 6 more before the report is...

Adding Data from form to multiple tables

Hi! Today's ponderance is a fun one. I have a form to add an account to our database as a valid account (frmAccountSetup). On this form are several controls to add valuable information about the account (startup date, address, etc) to a table that holds that information (say tblAccounts). But...

    Null to Zero Question?

Using Access 2002 Does anyone know (aside from a CByte() or similar conversion function) how to set a null to zero and keep the field as a numeric field? Currently I'm using this method in select portion of my query and I get my zeroes , but it changes my data type to a text field...

    Print SQL Tool???

Thanks FoFa - I wasn't aware that such a tool existed. However, every time I attempt to alter the options to exclude the unwanted information I receive the following error: 'Application-defined or Object-defined error' Anyone know what could cause this? Thanks, ~Chad Addendum: There are no...

    Print SQL Tool???

Hi. So, I'm in a bit of a pickle. Unfortunately, one of our higher ups decided to change the definition of a pretty major idea we've been working on. All of about 500 queries now written (and many chained) have information based at some point on the changed concept and now I get the joy of...

    Tuesday's fuzzy head...

Will do, Ken. Theoretically our database manager here should be back before tommorrow, it's just holding things up on our end. But if he's got nothing I'll throw a sample up. Thanks for the patience. ~Chad

    Tuesday's fuzzy head...

Sadly not, ken. The source table for this query had a multiple field key. What I want is a query that basically creates a single field key (the first field of the mfk). So within each of what I'll call the 'new key' there could be one or two semesters and an associated value per semester. I...
