Opening report based on current Order

Great quote, totally agree. I'm actually wanting to expand into LAMP and design database-driven websites at some (finite) point (in the future). There will come a day when I stop using Access, I'm pretty convinced of it. Maybe not for 20+ years, though. I'm 32, there's plenty of time to get all...

    Mood swings

I get mood swings. How about everyone else? I mean, like, little things really get to me sometimes and ruin my whole day. Even and including features of Microsoft Access (!) :p

    Religious Debate

#1: It has both unified and divided nations and households. #2: Made me so naive and gullible as to fall into all kinds of misfortune and disaster. Yet, I choose Paganism as my religion nowadays; tried Gnostic Christianity and that did nothing for me, tried mainstream Christianity and that got...

    Religious Debate

Did anyone ask this yet? --Isn't it a bit, well, "blasphemous" to have the so-called Ten Commandments of Access stickied in the main forums section? And don't even get me started on my so-called Access 2016 Bible! ;)

Gay marriage in Australia: Yes or No?

The title asks it all, but I just wanted to point out that Tony Abbott, our former PM, was punched in the face by one of the "Yes" crowd on account of his activities among the "No" crowd. That's about as ugly as it got... better him than me! So, should gay marriage be legalised in Australia...

    Hi from Aus

I used to troll the Metal Throne forums, where everyone was fair game for insults and slander. Not something I feel adds to my credentials, I just thought I'd point it out. I seem to be making quite a stir on these forums so far... you know, I'm just here to learn and hopefully contribute a bit...

Opening report based on current Order

Ouch. Point taken. Ok, our lecturers at South Regional TAFE were very good, but in terms of preparing us for the real world and the practice of database design as a paid freelance enterprise, they obviously omitted a few crucial points. Which you guys are pointing out to me now. I have to admit...

    Hand-written notes: Database design/theory

I think what I omitted to write was that relational databases are more commonly used than flat-file databases within the context of database design. Outside that context, Excel spreadsheets are more commonly used, even when Access would provide a better solution--correct?

Opening report based on current Order

Ok, sorry. I did try it out, the orders kept piling up in the database, and I faced the same problem I did before: that my report based on the Order form displayed all the orders at once. I can't help but think that I'm getting a bit stuck in the loop in the middle of this iterative dev cycle:

Opening report based on current Order

Yeah, I didn't want to hurt his feelings by complaining that it still didn't work out for me...

    Hand-written notes: Database design/theory

"To the experts in RDBMSes I speak my word." Here we go... This is the bulk of my handwritten notes on database concepts, with a cheeky paragraph on the end going off on a NoSQL tangent (definition of NoSQL ripped off--ahem, cited--from Wikipedia). Five pages altogether, scanned from my book of...

    Hand-written notes: Database design/theory

Thanks ridders, just xferred to Word .docx the notes Tfurnivall posted on that first thread you cited, here they are in this attachment (see attached). I'll give that second thread a read in a few minutes' time. To change the subject, people tell me I have neat handwriting. If this is true...

    Hand-written notes: Database design/theory

Hi everyone! Last year while I was studying my so-called "Cert III" in IT and Digital Media, I thought it would be a good idea to hand-write notes on database design and the theory behind relational databases. Attached are some notes from my so-called "PHP/Databases/SQL/Web Design" exercise...

Opening report based on current Order

Thanks guys, your brutal honesty is appreciated... sure, it's a bad idea, but it was--incredibly--the best I could come up with at the time. Frankly, that was the only thing that worked for me at all! My client wants to be able to enter the Order ID manually. That is his requirement, not my own...

    Accounts and Orders DB

I know  :banghead: :o Something tells me that the report I ought to generate from the Order form should have a filter applied to it, in order to display the correct client details... any other ideas or elaborations on this one?

    Accounts and Orders DB

Here's the Order slip for the other section of the database (see attached).

    Accounts and Orders DB

Yes, that's all correct, spot on. Cheers, I will implement this.

    Accounts and Orders DB

Yep, quite so! :o I've designed two databases before, both with only one Customer or Client table, and that seemed at first like the best idea for my Wakes Music DB. I am paying good attention to you guys at the moment because I don't want to screw this up for my very first real client...

Opening report based on current Order

OK, I had an idea. What if I delete all the order records that have been sent to the supplier via the database as soon as I create a new order? That would work, and my client won't need to access the previous orders anyway. If he did, perchance, he could just look at his emails. Here's a few...

    Accounts and Orders DB

@Mark: 1. I'll be focusing more on the Order form after thoroughly working out and getting right the Account form. My client says that it doesn't matter what a product costs, he just writes the product ID and quantity when he orders. 2. Debit/Credit are used for subtracting and adding...
