    Running Total

Sorry Gasman, I should have explained that the HistoryID is the account number- if I understand you correctly. Each client had a ledger page/part of and the HistoryID is related to that set of ledger entries

    Running Total

Hello All- I'm the OP that Mike was helping originally. Thanks to all of you above for your advice. I've continued working on the DSum method. This is because I want a line by line total so I can calculate the interest on the balance outstanding ( even if it is a long time ago). No doubt a...

Solved Help please. I can't create an autonumber field in the order I want.

Thank you GTH, you set me thinking. I'm going to keep the alphameric code called CategoryID and create an autonumber field in the query that feeds the report and in the combo boxes that set the limits of the accounts to be included (Thanks AllenBrowne) so that whatever happens to the account...

Solved Help please. I can't create an autonumber field in the order I want.

Hello everyone. I created a chart of accounts (attached) and then found I had to add a few blank heading titles to get the displayed P&L to show correctly. Following what I had picked up, I decided to create a new autonumber field to replace the existing one. After removing the old primary key...

    Site outage

Jon I didn't make a note of the dates, but for me the site was down from probably ten days ago - I checked most days- and I checked again last night and it was still not responding. Whether this was Chrome being difficult I don't know but anyway, glad to see my primary resource back!:) Mike

Solved how do I log my database event sequence?

Doc I'm not saying the code is broken- just enquiring about flicker, but certainly reducing file size has a lot to do with it. I observe that a large file size can appear twice with up to a 1 second gap, whilst reducing the file size almost eliminates the second showing- may eliminate it completely

Solved how do I log my database event sequence?

Gasman very sorry- don't know why you got left off my thanks. After all- you said it first. Surely if I know the sequence of the VB code routines, then all I need is the times when the SQL kicks in e.g. queries? Or am I missing something/everything?

Solved how do I log my database event sequence?

Jack Many thanks for your comments. I've had another look at the size of some of the attachments and reducing them in size seems to get rid of the double flicker that was annoying me. I've tried your code and that is so easy but really powerful way of charting whats going on, so I shall...

Solved how do I log my database event sequence?

Sorry about that. Mea Culpa. The operating form is ClientHistory. If that is open, you see there are 380+ entries. Each of those has a Client, who may have more than one "job". The earlier and original "Jobs" are merely records of papers or data held "concerning" various people/companies within...

Solved how do I log my database event sequence?

Ah, right, I can understand that! But since it doesn't appear that the VB holds the key to the problem as it doesn't stop on any of my breakpoints, how do I tie a name to the SQL statements-or whatever they are- that's very obscure to me.

Solved how do I log my database event sequence?

JDraw. Thanks for the offer. Attached a copy of the db plus a very small number of photos in a folder which will need to go directly on C: drive. I have realised that, having not reduced any of the photos, their size may be contributing to the problem as they take a finite time to load each...

Solved how do I log my database event sequence?

Well, as a first attempt, I put breakpoints on every sub in both forms and the only call was if I loaded a new photo into the sub-form, so logging doesnt seem to be able to give a record of where i've been. Further investigation gave a refresh of the subform on every alteration in a calculated...

Thanks everyone- I'll start at the top and work down- or at the bottom and work up, but I'll report back

Solved how do I log my database event sequence?

Ok so that is not a very good title. I have my new database thanks to all the help I have received here. However, most times I get two or three refreshes on a photo in a subform before it stabilises. Obviously I have too many saves/refreshes/whatever. Can I log the sequence that it goes through...

Solved Problem writing subform data to table.

I have been through the problems with Mike and I think we can mark this one as solved- it now does what I want and I mostly understand it due to getting a full explanation. thank you Mike for spending so much time on it with me and thanks to you, Pat, for bringing the error into the daylight...

Solved Problem writing subform data to table.

Pat Thanks- I totally understand the implication of null- well I did 50+ years ago! In the table HistoryLog, from where the Main form gets its values, the ClientID is a Long integer, so I cannot change the default to Null In the original Clientnames table the autonum Client ID is ditto If I...

Solved Problem writing subform data to table.

Thanks Pat Quite true, because there I am trying to create a new Client record from the sub-form window, but I'm not clever enough to work out how to set that up properly. ArnelGP's modified DB is at #7 and my original one is at #6. Relationship table is here I have also noticed that the last...
