    Best way to handle notes...

Pat, as always... Thanks!!! I'll look into the VBA behind the Shift-f2, and build a notes structure into a sample and post sometime soon. (Hopefully I'll be able to post a decent working database in the next few days)

    The "2nd Access Web Commandment"

http://www.mvps.org/access/tencommandments.htm Why noT? I thought lookup fields (IF I am understanding what they are referring to in the first place) was how you "lookup" information in a foreign table, right? What method should be used in its stead? If I have a combo box or a list box, how...

Quick Q about Product Tables (parts)

So the attached method will wwork? It seems to... I just want to make sure I don't find a huge problem with it a month down the road and I'm screwed. Thanks for the replies Pat, it's greatly appreciated! Also, I spent a bit of time trying to wrap my head around the Celk-BOM database RuralGuy...

Reputation feature not popular in these parts?

I'm suprised none the centenial/millenial (forgive my poorly contrived phrase) posters around here have established high reputations as of yet. Seems like everyone has only 1 green jello. I haven't even seen any radioactive jello floating around anywhere  If someone helps you out, or...

Posible to make a hybrid Option Group w/ Combo Box?

Hey all, I am wondering if there is a way to do this: Create an Option Group from a list (the Option Group would be most popular responses), and then, using the same control list in a table, have a combo box for the other possible entries? Whatever is selected, it would be stored to one table...

Crazy: FirstName / LastName set as primary key...

I think all I need to do is delete the relationship, change the PK, then reestablish the relationship. This works right? The relationships are number based, so I would think they would stay the same if I temporarily delete then re-establish the relationship right? I am testing now, seems to work!

Crazy: FirstName / LastName set as primary key...

Actually I was mistaken.... The Primary key is a composite of the First/Last Name, but there is a Autonumber CustomerID field that is a FK to the Orders table. What I need is there, so all I need to do is change the primary key - the relationship needs not change. When I try, I get the error...

Crazy: FirstName / LastName set as primary key...

I am looking at a database where the Primary Key is a composite of the customer's First & Last name. Obviously a huge problem! The funny thing is, the table was set up to with an Autonumber CustomerID, so all customers have this information already. Here's the question: there is a one to many...

    What's your best/worst joke?

Not only did Dick Cheany shoot someone this year. He shot someone in the FACE, with a shotgun. Oh yeah, did I mention this someone was Dick Cheany's friend!? Oh yeah, one more thing... the guy was 78 years old!!! (I got a friend a birthday card earlier this year that had a picture of Dick in...

What is the best way to handle Domestic vs. International customer information?

Thank you Len! I think what I am going to do is this: - Set up first for US addresses / phone numbers (95% of our business). - Set up an international address / phone buttons. Make these pop a second window for data entry that has no input masks, and larger field sizes to allow for any number...

What is the best way to handle Domestic vs. International customer information?

What is the best way to handle Domestic vs. International customer information? Such as Address and Phone Numbers. Here in the US, we format like so: Phone: (888) 888-8888 Address: Address1 Address2 City State ZIP (5 digit number only) I know this only works in the US, what is a good model...

    Over Normalization!

Thanks for all of the replies! I was venting when I wrote this (I had about 2-3 days where I only had a bit of time here and there and was unable to make any progress), but have since started to understand this more and more. I am trying to understand all I can about subforms, and queries as...

    Over Normalization!

Is this something that ever comes up? I set out to build a database, and one of the first things I hear/read over and over and over again is normalize your table structure. This seems to make many simple things a complete pain in the arse. Say I have this basic Customer table: tblCustomers...

Quick Q regarding format of subforms (datasheet view):

I have a subform on a Customer Data form for Phone Numbers (in order to normalize the data). Is there a way to display a subform in a format other than datasheet view? I only want to have space for 3 phone numbers, so a datasheet isn't necessary - I would rather the subform blend into my form...

How to prepare Normalized Data Model for Forms...

From the sample I have provided in my previous post, I want to create a form for entry of customer information as the first step in my data entry process. I understand I could base my form off of a query, but is that what I want to do? I am so lost on this it makes me sick. If I base this on a...

How to prepare Normalized Data Model for Forms...

Hello, I have a fairly complete data model, my question is, how best to create tables for entry where I do not have subform after subform, and subforms in subforms. With subforms for the subforms and subforms on top of that. I am about to start pulling out some teeth because at this point it...

Quick Q about Product Tables (parts)

Pat, I like the suggestion to eliminate the tblProductParts and create a layout where I can have multiple layers of parts based off of the single parts table instead of the current 2 level design... How do I set up the relationships though? What I have tried does not work: tblProducts...

    Best way to handle notes...

Hello, What is the best way to handle notes on a form? The DB is for recording Quotes and Orders taken over the phone. Is it best to have a seperate table w/ a NotesType field so that all notes are stored in a central location? Or is it better to store notes for each quote/order in the Orders...
