Why not post the SQL statement that is giving you the error then you might get some feedback.

I would have thought it is because you now have linked tables from the BE database. Setting up an index (even if only temporary) will possible be trying to changed the definition of the table which can't be done in a linked table. Greater minds than my own may throw more light on this problem.

Ah - just re-read the code. i assume that the line: DoCmd.Save acDefault saves the record with default values Dohhhh :-)

Your code doesn't really appear to do anything. You go to a new record but then don't put any data into it. You then effectively save a blank record. Am I missing something here !! :-(
