Best option for grouping areas in a customer database?

Thanks alot for all your help wazz! I've changed the names of all the fields to be correct, and have linked counties to towns, so now the database has been given quite an extensive overhaul! :D Only thing is, i'm so rusty on things, and i've found that i can edit the county names from forms...

Best option for grouping areas in a customer database?

Ok not the best way to spend a sunday afternoon :( but i got it to work, thanks alot Wazz. No i had everything right the first time, and wasn't using select distinct. But in the query the two tables were joined on AreaID, as you said here:- UPDATE tblCustomerArea INNER JOIN tblArea ON...

Best option for grouping areas in a customer database?

I'm sorry Wazz, i've been trying it but i just can't get it to work :( I've started to work out how update queries work from what you gave me and i've tried a few things but it doesn't seem to work. With the code you gave it just says 'About to update the data in 0 rows'. If i remove the...

Best option for grouping areas in a customer database?

Oh yeah, i know i appear to be totally useless lol :D but i do know a bit of what i'm doing, i certainly don't have a problem with copying and pasting a file :D , hav already done that. No, i have done tblAreas properly, used a query to bring up existing areas then used SELECT DISTINCT, so...

Best option for grouping areas in a customer database?

Ok i think i'm going to have to go with the multi-select list box option, at least he wont be fixed to only the grouped areas then and can just choose which ones he wants to bring up. So now i've just got to work out how to do it :( Many thanks.

Best option for grouping areas in a customer database?

No i've tried a few things but i'm stumped :( It just seems really messy to have to have lots of different queries just to have different groups doesn't it? There must be a better way. I just want to have a list of groups (which are linked to areas) so u can just search by group, produce...

Best option for grouping areas in a customer database?

Hi wazz, thanks for your reply. The area and post codes are seperate as we don't have them for every customer so if they were part of tblCustomers there would be loads of gaps in the data. The phone numbers and comments are in a 1 to 1 relationship as there is only one of each per customer. As...

Best option for grouping areas in a customer database?

Hi all, just wondered if anyone would have an idea of the best way to implement this? I have a customer database, the relationships are below, and currently have done searching by town/city, street, purchase date, and also searching by area. But now the person i created it for wants to be able...

Sorting text field as numeric in report? Please Help

Hi Brian, welcome back :) Erm... I don't remember you asking if there was any grouping/sorting already in the report. :o Yes there was extra grouping/sorting, the reports pull together info from three different queries, and each one is grouped in different ways for different results, so i...

Sorting text field as numeric in report? Please Help

Thanks alot Doug :D I think for now i would be content with just putting 5 for the numeric characters, i very much doubt there would be a house number greater than 99999, and if there was i could fix it as i'm constantly working on the database anyway, but so far it doesn't go above about...

Sorting text field as numeric in report? Please Help

Actually no i got that wrong, if the record has numbers, i.e. 104, then it'll come back as 17 zero's then 104104 (00000000000000000104104) or if it has letters i.e. 1a it'll have the letters at the end of the 20 i.e 000000000000000000011a, but if the entry is a house name it returns 20 zero's...

Sorting text field as numeric in report? Please Help

Wow yeah that works perfectly Doug :D As you can tell i'm only just learning expressions, etc. Can i ask how that expression sorts letters? I have 20 total characters in House/FlatNumber, to accomodate for the (very few) house names instead of numbers, which might be quite long. I have put...

Best way for sorting text field as numeric?

Yeah thats right :o It was in there earlier and i've missed it out at some point. Thanks! Doh! However, i have a new problem now...... Whilst the expressions work properly, and in a query will have the correct results.....in a report i cannot sort by the Val: expression then by the textval...

Best way for sorting text field as numeric?

Well the Val expression works fine, and all numbers are sorted properly in the report now, but only if its just numbers :( . However, the textval: expression doesn't seem to work properly. Not just in the report, but in genereal, and when tested in the query. If i have for example flat numbers...

Best way for sorting text field as numeric?

Ok i think we're getting there now. I've simply added a field to the query of:- House/FlatNumber_Sort: Val([House/FlatNumber]) And then in the report sorted by that field. Is it as simple as that? Do i need to use the other expression???:-...
