.EOF takes a really long time!

Banana- If I take out the aggregation, I get the error: 'not a GROUP BY expression' David- What's happening here is that we are checking oracle for user input errors. If there are no errors then no records will appear. If there are records, then there are errors and it needs to record them...

.EOF takes a really long time!

    1) Yes, it hung 2) Did this anyways, and it hung. That line is 2 steps, but the EOF is where it's hanging. 3) I'm a little confused here....so breakpoint at the loop, skip "If .EOF...." and run "If Not .EOF"? If so, then yes, it hung. I'm starting to think it is the SQL I am running, but I...

.EOF takes a really long time!

Hey buddy! No, the loop is fine, in fact nine times out of ten that 'RecordNumber' variable is going to be 1 anyways. It just hangs on the single line when I'm stepping through it. I also just made another observation that the very next line (If Not .EOF then .MoveNext) does not hang....hmm...

.EOF takes a really long time!

Hi Guys- I know most of you are access experts, but I have a problem with an oracle database. I'm using Excel VBA to tap an Oracle DB via ADO. My problem is that .EOF takes a really long time. Wondering if there are any suggestions on how to speed this up...? Code is below, and my problem...

    Time to Archive?

Ohhhhhh, I get what you are saying.... So basically search for the composite ID contained in the actual table being queried, rather than join another table and search a value which will ultimately reference the primary ID of the joined table which is the compositeID of the original table...

    Time to Archive?

HiTech, I do compact as often as possible. I think inexing is where my problem lies... Just a quick question too, does indexing work with ADODB recordsets as well?

    Time to Archive?

Help?!? Wow, this thread is like insight overload! I know it was air code, but I'm assuming that you meant it can be simplified to SELECT * FROM aTable WHERE aTable.LookupID = XX and aLookupTable.Value = "SomeValue"; Or am I missing something? Banana, that really helps a lot!! I'm going...

    Time to Archive?

I figured that you'd need to see how it works. I meant for it to be more of a general question. The db is a huge animal, and I don't think I would even be able to post it. Indices....? I've never heard of such a thing. We may be on to something here... Where can I learn more?

    Time to Archive?

I'm considering implementing an archiving system in my database, but before I go down that path, I wanted to run my situation by you guys and get some input. I am beginning to notice performance issues, but my 2 biggest tables have 12,751 records for the main and 38,048 for the detail (m-m...

Discussion on transaction storage (accountant and DBA input welcome)

Just to add on to Gemma's list, you may want to also consider the Lower of Cost or Market valuation method. This will be helpful tax time.

    Basic question about passing variables

Hey guys- Thanks for the responses. I think I'm just going to use a public variable even though I hate using them. I was just hoping there was a way to do something like myVar = docmd.openform('Frm", , , , ACDialog), a reverse openargs if you will. Thanks again! Joe

    Basic question about passing variables

Hi- I have a pretty basic question that would save me a bunch of time. Right now I have a form button (Forms!frmStep5b!cmdOverride) that opens another form: DoCmd.OpenForm "frmOverrride", , , , ACDialog I know I can use OpenArgs to pass a variable from frmStep5b to frmOverrride. However I'd...

Problem Summing Controls in Report Footer

Really?!? That sucks! Your solution did the trick (and also introduced me about the running sum property), but I would think that summing a calculated control would be something you could do. Oh well...long live microsoft, lol. Thanks Paul! Joe

Problem Summing Controls in Report Footer

I'm just at a loss as to why this isn't working. In a nutshell, I'm trying to sum a control in the report footer. I have a textbox named txtTotal(which is what I'd like to sum) in the Detail section of my report with the following expression in the control source: =IIf([Function...

What are the top things you would like to see in a future version of Access?

Not sure if it was already mentioned, but I'd like to see expressions that have the concept of implicit reference, just to make my life easier (see post earlier today :)).

Self-reference a textbox for data validation

Sigh...I was hoping that wasn't the case. At least I can stop searching for something non-existent! Now where's that thread for features we'd like to see in the next version of Access :) Thanks again. Joe

Self-reference a textbox for data validation

Hi guys, I'm trying to use data validation in a textbox and I need some help with the syntax. What I'd like to do is use data validation to not only prevent a decimal from being entered, but to shoot up a message saying it was invalid. My aircode looks like: me-int(me)=0 Obviously, the...

Problem with datediff in textbox validation

Hi- I'm having trouble getting a validation rule to work. My textbox (txtTimeOutDate) is allowing values that are not valid. <=[Forms]![frmHoursTracking]![cboWeekEnding] And >=([Forms]![frmHoursTracking]![cboWeekEnding]-6) And DateDiff("d",[txtTimeOutDate],[txtTimeInDate])<=1 The DateDiff...
