Minor Change Caused Major Increase in Calculation and Saving Time

thanks shades, will check it out.. right now i am re-creating the file, step by step, and changing pivot filter at every step to see when the time jump occurs. so far it looks like it's NOT the conditional formatting (although it did add a few seconds).. another peculiar annoyance in this...

Minor Change Caused Major Increase in Calculation and Saving Time

no idea! but i looked online, looks like there are a few tips here and there on how to 'en-lighten' the pivot tables. of course if you have suggestions i'd be more than happy to hear.. l

Minor Change Caused Major Increase in Calculation and Saving Time

"moved to a new location" - dragging. just selected a block and dragged it on the same worksheet. thanks, for the cache tip (no pun), will try to kill that pivot table and redo it, see where it takes me. now, the data behind the pivot table (on the server) will be updated daily, so whoever...

Minor Change Caused Major Increase in Calculation and Saving Time

another day another excel quirk! this is excel 2007, on xp. i made a few relatively innocuous changes - - added 1 variable to a pivot table (have 3 now) and rearranged them a bit, - eliminated about a 1000 rows of calculations, that used light formulas (double-nested IFs) and conditional...

    Row Heights Change Completely Randomly

worked like a charm! many thanks, Sam.. (just 'Sam' is good, i assume, since the whole handle asks for it?) it could be a new chapter in my relationship with excel.. (although we just had another argument, i am posting my complaint in a minute).. l

    IF Statements

    IF Statements

what if you just format the cell with your formula to whatever format you need? i feel like it should work just fine.. although sounds a bit trivial.. maybe i'm missing something.. let us know. l

    Row Heights Change Completely Randomly

great idea, thanks Call_Me_Sam! definitely will try that, although it will be a laborious exercise as i am not a good coder at all. couldn't understand your question, could you rephrase please?.. l

    Row Heights Change Completely Randomly

and extremely annoyingly.. whenever i trigger a change in a pivot table using the report filter, the heights of some of the rows involved in the action change without any logic. i have a bunch of cells to the right of the pivot table that change based on the pivot table modifications, and...

    Date in File Name

maybe it doesn't like the slashes? (i am assuming you are using mm/dd/yy, or similar.) see if it will work if you play with the date format, eg use mm-dd-yy, or even better custom mmddyyyy or similar. just an idea. l

    Joining Queries

FROM table1 INNER JOIN (SELECT Ratings.[Cust ID], First([Cust ID] & [Type]) AS CustType FROM Ratings GROUP BY Ratings.[Cust ID]) AS Qry1 ON table1.var1 = Qry1.var1 yes!!! it worked!... thanks much, MSAccessRookie (are you really?).. i was struggling with it for a few days now. feeling...

    Joining Queries

if i change "query1" to actual query syntax, it's not working.. e.g. FROM table1 INNER JOIN (SELECT Ratings.[Cust ID], First([Cust ID] & [Type]) AS CustType FROM Ratings GROUP BY Ratings.[Cust ID]) ON table1.var1 = (SELECT Ratings.[Cust ID], First([Cust ID] & [Type]) AS CustType FROM Ratings...

    Joining Queries

just a quick question - is it possible, in the statement below, instead of "query1" to put actual SQL syntax for that query? if not, is there a workaround? FROM table1 INNER JOIN query1 ON table1.var1 = query1.var1
