Photo Database - getting too big

Are you storing the pictures in the db, or storing the path to where the pictures are? The first will grow very quickly and not be managable, the second will reduce the size and be easier to administer if built correctly.

    Help working across two sites?

If you use peer to peer you havn't got a dedicated server with Windows 2000 server. This you must have and it doesn't come cheap. I think you should speak to someone who can install and configure a W2K server for further info and quote, they will know the ins and outs, I'm afraid I don't.

    Help working across two sites?

When you buy Windows server 2000 you buy client licenses for the number of users who will log on to the system. You would have to buy terminal licenses for the number of people who would log on in that manor. When someone logs on they would get the windows front screen with user name and...

    Help working across two sites?

Hi Paul If both sites have ADSL you may find a WAN acceptable. Other options include pcanywhere if just one person needs to access the data from the remote site. Another option if the host site has Windows 2000 server would be to use the termminal services and let users log on using remote...

    Screen Resolution

As GHudson says above Store the origional values (I only use the horizontal) in a table then you can reverse to the origional settings when you exit the db. The main problems I encountered were: 1. If the user multitasks between apps with the db open they get the other app in the screen...

    Remote Access to a Database

You can set up a VPN with any version of Windows from 98 on with the right software. I'm not the person to talk to re the finer points other than to confrim that windows 2k and XP come with a wizard to help. Security on the VPN is another issue to research to make sure it really is private. When...

    Remote Access to a Database

I agree with Autoeng pcAnywhere is good for what you need to do as long as there is a free PC in the office for him to control. Or if you're feeling brave a VPN and give him a front end on his PC.

    Audit Trail Code?

I think the most secure way would be to convert your mdb file to a mde file and distribute that file as no one can get to any of the code (not even you). Make sure that you keep a copy of the mdb file for your development and update purposes. Alternatively if your using Access 2000 or xp you...

    Run-time, App-specific license checking?

Tom If everyone logs on and off the db you can create a table of people who have logged on and not logged off. A Yes/No Field will suffice, however you could store the userID, computer name, user name for the pc, log on time and log off time. When someone logs on to the db you could count the...

Save filename without the user being able to change the filename?

You could create the file and set the properties to read only. Its not permanent but it may be enough.

What version of access are you using? If 97 is it possible your db has bee converted to 2000? or did you last use access 2000 and now you are opening your db from a shortcut or the file directly. If so Open Access97 and then try opening your db.
