    Service Ticket Table(s)

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I've started moving the blank tables into a new database for the new owner of the company. Here's an example, it's not even close to complete (no forms or query's etc.). This is just a start, as the new company owner will not get all the data we currently have...

    Service Ticket Table(s)

In our quest to update/improve our current database I am looking for thoughts on best practice please. We break things into three different categories: Machine, Property, or Management Company, and I track everything in one table (below) tblService. The reason it was set up this was because...

Solved Table Updates - PK changes - help

I think, in my learning to use Access way back when, I didn't fully understand this. My ProductID, for our purposes, would be considered a ProductCode, as it not only is the PK for the table but also is part of the excel files that go in/out of the database. I think I have to make some changes.

Solved Table Updates - PK changes - help

That's a good idea. I just got off the phone with the current owner and he's narrowed down even further what I can / cannot give to the new owner. Dates might be the way to go, as he's now given me dates for other areas of the database also.

Solved Table Updates - PK changes - help

Thanks Gasman, yes, he's seen it working, with some questions about "why" does it do this not that, etc. I'm trying to do the "fixes" he's asking me about. Right now, it's just myself and our current owner who use the program, so it's not really an end-user type of deal. I need to add a lot of...

Solved Table Updates - PK changes - help

The new owner uses an online system currently and it's expensive and not as functional as the one I've created. An agreement was made that if the new owner buys Access, I can export parts of the existing database that are part of the sale. I was going to copy the entire database and then just...

Solved Table Updates - PK changes - help

Thank you, Doc Man. Yes, a flag is a good idea. I have one right now that just says "discontinued" - items that are simply no longer made. I should probably have a different one for inactive - an item that is not discontinued but we are not currently using. I'll add that, it will make life easier.

Thank you for your reply, George and your feedback. I've used the PK auto-number to identify many things, Examples... tblmachine - PK, autonumber, MachineID tblProduct - PK, autonumber, ProductID tblProperty - PK, autonumber, PropertyID If I'm understanding you correctly, it would be better...

Solved Table Updates - PK changes - help

The company I work for is in the midst of a sale and the new owner wants to utilize the Access database I've created. However, as part of the purchase agreement, he only gets access to some of the records. With this in mind, I'm creating a new database, a large project but also a great chance...

Solved Data Change Table - Best Practices?

These are good points, I appreciate your feedback. I didn't consider the city part of the equation because we currently only operate in one State (we're a pretty small business). That being said, I will definitely look into this, having a list of cities would help normalize the data and avoid...

Solved Data Change Table - Best Practices?

Thanks for your reply. I do use the start date and end date for my product price table, but I never considered using it here, that is a great idea. I'm thinking I need multiple tables. Do you see any downfalls of having things separated as follows? tblProperty PropertyID (PK) PropertyAddress...

Solved Data Change Table - Best Practices?

I track the management company right now - but an ownership table might be a good idea, haven't thought of that one. I'll talk to the boss.

Solved Data Change Table - Best Practices?

Yes, I should save them all. You're right, one-to-many is a good way to go. So many changes from my "simple" database that we only wanted to track a few things.

It's amazing, but yes. I've been here less than 10 years and one property has changed names 3 times.

Solved Data Change Table - Best Practices?

I am doing some database updates and would appreciate guidance from others. We have a table that records basic details (id, name, address, city, etc..) about a location (tblProperties). Within this table we have a field called PropertyName - this field can represent an apartment complex name...

Solved From with One-To-Many Relationship table

This is perfect, thank you so much. It seemed like it should be so simple but I don't use anything like this anywhere else in my entire database. I could not wrap my head around this for all the peanuts in the circus. I greatly appreciate your taking the time and help me with this.
