    Daily Backup of BE Database

A warning - learned the hard way - make sure that Back-Ups being taken by the 'system' include everything you think they do IT departments are selective about what they think is, and isn't, important. Also get a back-up and see if it actually works.

    Daily Backup of BE Database

Never had to do it since but 'just in case' we had code which stopped people logging in at BU time (0200). Can't actually say if it was ever invoked as we had no feedback one way or the other.

Trying to find a 0.00 in list of numbers currency

One warning here: DSUM and DCOUNT return 0 (zero) both for the actual value of zero and if an error is thrown (including a null value). Always considered this really 'helpful'!

    Today's Environmentalists Are Really Luddites

However rational one might try and be about gold, it is a simple fact that it is valuable simple because it has always been valuable and its value is ingrained into most cultures. Wedding rings, anniversaries, everyday expressions like 'gold-plated' .... It's a simple truism that it's...

    Daily Backup of BE Database

I used to do this sort of task, albeit on a generation basis, rather than weekdays not using Access at all. I just used Windows Task scheduler to run a a Windows Script Host script which did the copy and replacing. This was, however, in the days before VBScript was denigrated, but it could...

    Raise your hand

Concurrent sentencing is the norm in UK to the extent that I can't ever remember hearing of the award of consecutive sentences. However, concurrent does mean that every sentence has to treated individually when parole/release is considered.

Solar panels do not depend on bright sunlight to work. All daylight works - just not quite so well if it it isn't bright sunlight. a bit like remembering you can get sun burned when it's dull and overcast..

    Today's Environmentalists Are Really Luddites

I too do not dislike the view of wind power turbines, but the the sad fact is that, given that they can't be recycled, it takes about 27 years to achieve a carbon saving from a turbine whilst at present the average life of a turbine is 17½ years.

    Solved VBA Statement to Rename

OK - guilty as charged - should have read the code better.

    Solved VBA Statement to Rename

Just a suggestion and may not be appropriate if SloMo wants his existing logic but the iteration and renaming would be far easier if SloMo were to use the FileSystemObject for this - ie, the correct tool for the job.

    Online Annoyances

You'd often hear the cry - 'change or die'. This has always been meaningless, as 'change and die' is equally likely: a diferrent platitude - 'hang in there ' - is as often just as valid. As doc man says, you need to know what needs changing.

Hence my complaints on the changed message box thread. Change for the sake of change instead of fixing the bits that need fixing.

Had an even better one today - Went to log in to one of my credit card's web site and they had swapped the position of the 'Continue' and 'Go Back' buttons during the login process. Everything else appeared unchanged just the buttons. Luckily the Continue was still the default if you use the...

    Online Annoyances

After almost thirty years of programming for a living and enjoying nearly all of it, I kept going with Access to 'keep-my-hand-in'. My Access lottery db I started when running a syndicate at work back in the days of Access 2 and it has been, changing, expanding (but not necessarily improving)...

Simple reply - Yes. On the NL website for each game you can download (as CSV) the Results History for the last 180 days. I do this then have routines to import them into Access to process them. The change of file name prevents this happening.

Solved Rounding To 16Dp Decimal (3 Different Answers)

The perfect reason for using a decimal data type in your dbms, and one of the reasons Access needs a native decimal data type. You will always get a consistent answer (even if it isn't perfect).

    Online Annoyances

This may be a thread which hasn't been edited in a while but such problems just don't go away. My latest annoyance is the UK National Lottery once again where after a re-vamp the drawhistory download for just one of the games has changed its filename to replace 2 of the 3 hyphens to spaces...

Access Europe User Group - Wed 7 Jan: Spot the Difference – A new style MsgBox for Access (Neil Sargent)

I'm delighted that Isladogs pointed me in the direction of FormattedMsgBox and despite its marginally different behaviour am happily now using it. I am unable to find, however, any reference to how or why it works and what exactly Eval is doing in this case. Can enyone help?
