Tip of the Day - Mothers Maiden Name

Back to the basis of IT security - it doesn't have to good but good enough. For instance, we are told 'never write your passwords down', but a physically secure bit of paper cannot be hacked and is certainly better than my memory. The stricture about writing them is aimed at the post-it note...

    A great loss..

I love these simplistic debates. They nearly always ignore consequences (and harsh reality). And I promised myself I wouldn't contribute to this sort of thread again ... sorry.

When did you started Access development? Are you still into Access? And Why?

As I said above I've been using Access since forever, but people forget about the world before Access. As I said Access 1 cost me £19, Access 1.1 was a free upgrade and Access 2 was a similar price (£30 is) to start with although I was lucky enough to get mine free. As the time the only...

When did you started Access development? Are you still into Access? And Why?

Since Access 1.0 was released in UK in 1992 (cost £19). By best memory is going to the launch of Access 2.0 in UK at the US Embassy in London and being given as many free copies as we could carry.

There is stuff in Wikipedia that I've put there - I am suspicious of any site/ facility that would allow this!!

Another demo of JSON Recordset (mimic the behavior of DAO.Recordset)

A fascinating thread but I fail to spot its usefulness. The whole point of JSON is to provide a fast and efficient system for basically unstructured data. I you read its Genesis it was devised as a way of avoiding the full panoply of XML to move data around on-line. We really shouldn't be...

    Today's Environmentalists Are Really Luddites

I have somewhere a copy of an article that was written at the time of Al Gore's 'inconvenient truth' which showed that not necessarily he was wrong but the data he had used to prove it was methodologically totally flawed. Described as: "Taking the temperature in the fridge in July and in the...

Full rebuild; migrating old tables and lots of other fun stuff. General pointers requested.

My only experience of this as a large change with lots redundant feature/data etc was that we stopped an drew a functional diagram of the existing system showing each screen from the main menu onwards and the passage/calls etc. Each of the square boxes that represented screen was annotated with...

    Inconsequential Query

Generally here on AW users either just use native Access as their data store, or those producing more commercial apps, SQLServer. I would be intrigued to know what other back ends our contributors may currently use? I have in the past used Oracle, MySQL and SQLLite, albeit not these days when...

As far as I am concerned with all political opinions on this site - in the gutter. Carry on deleting Uncle Gizmo!

Seeking a Moderator for the Moderators

The collective name I know for cats is a clouder. However, since most of these collective nouns are made up for effect and are seldom very old anything will do. :)

Two nations divided by a common language.

Correct, but also a euphemism for testicles: In the sense you mean it usually said as 'a load of bollocks'.

I have only one comment here which explains everything - and it's just one word. POLITICIANS

Solved Determine Join Type Between Tables In MSSQL Diagram View?

Sorry but MVFs are dreadful on so many levels - the single worst Access innovation ever! :devilish:

Date format reverts back to previous format

Of course we adapt, (hence my usage above) but it is annoying that the other 90+ % of us have to because of American language imperialism.

Date format reverts back to previous format

Absolutely agree as with the other stricture about setting the format everywhere used(forms, reports controls etc) but there are still anomalies caused by MS's default - for instance assigning a date to a string to be used in an SQL statement. Being a Brit I always assign dates to strings as...

Date format reverts back to previous format

It never helps that Microsoft uses Date format (MDY) that is only used by about 3% of the world's population. 😏
