    VBA no prompt to save design changes

    @sonic8, @John F I've now updated my Application.UserControl article to include all the issues discussed in this thread. As the URL has changed slightly I've also modified the link in post #6 https://www.isladogs.co.uk/application-user-control/index.html Hopefully I've covered all the...

    Access instance remains in memory once closed

    @mloucel If I'm understanding you correctly, you are using EndTask to forcibly close down the Access FE when a user clicks Exit on a login form. If so why? Instead, just close Access normally (and nicely) using Application.Quit. Have a look at my example app to see this in practice...

    Weird VBA / Query Behavior

    Possibly but only if the underlying table is locked from the last append which seems unlikely. Try it and see. However is there a reason why you can’t just append all the records at once rather than looping through one record at a time?

    Missing record query.

    Not sure why this old thread was resurrected today but I think Allen Browne made a very prescient comment about subqueries in his article http://allenbrowne.com/subquery-02.html:

    VBA no prompt to save design changes

    Similarly my original response was directly related to this thread. Anyway, I will indeed add additional detail in my web article in the next week or so. Thanks for the 'subtle' prompt! 😏

    Notepad++ Updates Compromised with Spyware

    I agree with both of the previous responses. The original article made it clear that the hackers were targeting certain machines / sectors - but that doesn't necessarily mean the attack was limited to those sectors. I had last updated Notepad++ to v8.8.2 in June using the built-in updater - It...

    VBA no prompt to save design changes

    That's not what I meant! UserControl = True when an app is opened directly. UserControl = False when an app is opened using automation unless specified otherwise in code (as in post #3) As clearly described earlier, users can still change object designs when UserControl is false But users...

    Notepad++ Updates Compromised with Spyware

    @RonPaii I hope CoPilot is correct in its assertion. However, the original article on which it is probably basing its comments, does not make that distinction.

    VBA no prompt to save design changes

    Perhaps you were thinking about the Form_Unload or Form_Dirty events, both of which are cancellable. Either way, it won't compile using Form.IsDirty.

    VBA no prompt to save design changes

    There really isn't anything of consequence to add to the official documentation at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/vba/api/access.application.usercontrol As stated in my own brief article, I mainly use it to control whether or not an Access file can be opened using automation

    VBA no prompt to save design changes

    @John F I have a short article about the UserControl property which may be of interest https://www.isladogs.co.uk/application-user-control/index.html EDIT: Article updated 2026-02-06 to include additional details discussed in this thread

    Notepad++ Updates Compromised with Spyware

    Yes I understand that. I may be wrong but my impression from reading the article was that any updates from the Notepad++ website itself were also intercepted as the hosting provider had been compromised Personally I wouldn’t take the risk, no matter how you obtained any updates from June to Dec...

    Notepad++ Updates Compromised with Spyware

    In this case, I don't believe that would have helped as the update process was intercepted at the host. Have you read the article?

    Subform going corrupt when adding a field

    I think that's unlikely as you get a warning message when you hit the lifetime limit for form controls. For info, the limit is officially 754 but in practice is now at least 1038 (32-bit) or 1176 ((64-bit). If you subform is getting corrupted then try decompiling your Access project. This will...

    Notepad++ Updates Compromised with Spyware

    Like me, many of you will probably be long time users of the very popular and free Notepad++ text editor. In case you aren’t already aware, the hosting server used to deliver updates was compromised from June to Dec 2025 resulting in malicious spyware being installed on users’ computers. The...

    What have I done that has impacted the capitalisation of my ubiquitous variable?

    I didn’t say you need an add-in. My point was that this issue happens frequently enough for the fix to be provided as one of the many features in a commercial tool

    Access instance remains in memory once closed

    Richard is describing the use of taskkill which was discussed earlier in this thread. For example, see my comments in post #12 https://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/threads/access-instance-remains-in-memory-once-closed.334531/#post-1972999

    What have I done that has impacted the capitalisation of my ubiquitous variable?

    The same issue can affect built-in function names like Left being changed to left, Right to right etc The cause is Access trying to be helpful by correcting where you re-type something with the 'wrong case'. Usually it works well. Unfortunately this can also have the side effect of overwriting...

    Convert all the old check box controls on continuous forms to a modern style.

    That's very impressive Xevi. Also a good range of images to choose from the the image gallery.
