Calculated field to lookup its value based on another field

bob fitz - sorry, but they are school records, and I would have to rewrite all the names, marks etc in order to not breach professional confidentiality. Besides this, I'd then have to talk everyone through a very detailed "how school records are marked" process and I'm trying to keep the...

Calculated field to lookup its value based on another field

Thanks for your input, though the method you described doesn't fully work for me The science_grade is actually a few numbers added together. When I try to link science_grade to the lookup table.... I get the error, "Calculated columns cannot be used in system relationships". What I have done...

Calculated field to lookup its value based on another field

Is there a way that I can make a field in a table (I don't mind using a query if you can show me how) which is a calculated field and gets its value by performing a look up (from a another table list) based on another numeric field for that person? e.g. In school grades, the student might get...

Text to Memo but field size remains unchanged

Thanks John - I'd been there in my search... what it seems to be is apparently different from any of the suggestions. I'm not sure exactly why it wasn't working. Is there a way to mark these threads as solved?

Text to Memo but field size remains unchanged

I've fixed it (somehow). There was an @ symbol in the Format property which seems to have made all the difference. Once I erased this, and then reinserted the field onto my forms, it all started working as expected.

Text to Memo but field size remains unchanged

I am making a database for student reports where I need field size to be more than 255. Googling has led me to an answer that text fields are limited to this amount, but a solution is to use type "memo" instead as the base datatype of the field in the table. The problem is, that while this does...

Autoupdate fields on a form, uses two tables

Sorry man, I'm completely confused by your answer. Look up? I went to the table "Chemical In" and tried adding a lookup column containing price per unit. It gave me the error "You entered an expression that has an invalid reference to the property |" and refused to add the column. I'm thinking...

Autoupdate fields on a form, uses two tables

Please look at my simple Access 2000 business database: http://www.bestsharing.com/files/6YcsupN277234/chem.mdb.html On the form named "Chemical In"... ...this is where someone enters the amount of product they are purchasing along with the purchase date. At the moment, the form also expects...

Not sure how to show date range

Well, thanks to both of you. Problem solved by adding a form to ender the dates, no extra tables needed. Format was =[Forms]![MyForm]![MyDateControl]. I'll hit the scale icons on you both for your speedy replies. EDIT: Sorry, did not know I could not hit scales on both of you... gave credit to...

Not sure how to show date range

Yes, I'd tried that. Did you look at the database before answering? The "prompt" asking for the dates comes from the query. I'm not sure that it goes to a field, and if it does I'm not sure how to link to the field in the way you say. ...but then I'm not good at Access... could someone please...

Not sure how to show date range

I've added a new report to a simple business type database. My report (useage by crop report) asks a user for start and finish dates for a time they want to see outgoing costs... try inputting the dates 1 Jan 2005 and 1 Feb 2005 to get the idea. The form works but... ...how do I get it to put...

How can invoicing $0.00 be so difficult?

Oh yes. Sorry about that. I've been working on the main database for a long time now and I've had some of those many late nighters especially of late. I guess I'm starting to sound cranky like I feel. Actually, I'm not really being paid as such for this work, I'm doing it more as a favour for...

    Killing gaps in an address

Aha!!!! Thanks neileg.... I have a problem with the wizard (it doesn;t always fire up) but it went and I see what you mean!!! :) And y'know what? mtabrams wasn't off track at all - he actually hit the nail on the head! (I just didn't understand his solution enough to be able to implement it)...

How can invoicing $0.00 be so difficult?

Yes maybe, I agree with you for my own business practise... ...but then I am making this database for a very difficult customer who's dictating her own business terms. Not me. Mine is not to question her terms. I'm just supposed to get Access to do what she wants, not argue why I shouldn't...

    Killing gaps in an address

Sorry mrabrams but I think you're way off. I've attached a simple example to this reply so you can more clearly see what I'm talking about. Please let me know if you find a solution. Thanks for replying btw.

How can invoicing $0.00 be so difficult?

...because I'm not making the real (bigger) database for myself but for someone else and she's very impulsive. She's the kind of person who might just decide "I think I'll invoice half the clients this month" just to keep them in touch! ...and if those invoices don't show up on the invoice...

    Killing gaps in an address

How can invoicing $0.00 be so difficult?

I'm making a database to help with my invoicing of miscellaneous jobs but it's proving to be a real pain in the very last stage of development. Basically, everything is up and working except that when I print a summary sheet of invoices, any invoice which was made for a client where there were...

    Broken border

I want to create a summary report showing ongoing payments / invoicing etc, with a grand total at the end. This is easy enough, except that I want to have the grand total appear on the bottom of the page while preserving a border decoration all the way down, even past null / empty report space...
