    Its doesn't have to be the table directly - it can be a form with a subform in datasheet view, with the recordsource set in a way that's not accessing the table directly. I thought the above was what the OP was referring to , as they mentioned a form.

    You can get the values for the new records by using something like !NewRecordField = Form_FormName!SourceField but yes you would need to somehow select which fields you wanted if , the whole record wasn't required.

    Just as a quick check have you run each line in SSMS just to check them there, you should get a better idea of any errors that way rather than the access message.
