Link Access database to external Excel file

Me. I don't know what I'm at with it. And I don't think my work laptop with network permissions has the necessary tools to set up OBDC connections. I've imported the data from the linked tables in to a local table on the back end for now and will update them manually for the time being. Not...

Link Access database to external Excel file

I'm having an awful time trying to figure out the connection to the SQL server and am afraid to mess with it too much in case I break it. I tried linking to a csv file but that seems to suffer the same issue of not allowing multiple users. Is there any other way I can make this work??

Link Access database to external Excel file

Isaac, when you say flat file do you mean a CSV? I'm pretty sure the finance system can export a CSV file if that would make any difference? From speaking to the suppliers of the finance system I have been told that the data is stored in an SQL database. I know nothing about SQL. What would I...

Link Access database to external Excel file

From googling it it seems it is a common problem when linking to excel tables do to multi user limitations. I will have a go at what you suggested but long term the database really needs to be linked to the excel file in real time as the file could be updated 10 times a day. Nothings ever easy!!

Link Access database to external Excel file

The excel file updates every day so it wouldn't be practical to copy data into everyone's FE file. Very annoying, everything works great with just one user. Would it be possible to have the back end update a local table at the same time every day from the excel file rather than using a linked table?

Link Access database to external Excel file

Yes, back end on the server and everyone has their own front end on their desktop. I think it would work fine if it weren't for the link excel tables.

Link Access database to external Excel file

Right so this project kind of faded away with the lockdown but its back going again now. I have run in to another problem related to the linked excel table. I have split the database and have the back end on the server. It all works fine when only one person is using it. However when someone...

    Total row in query

Hi everyone, I have a query which counts the number of complaints my company receives about each of the products it produces and the number of these complaints which the qc department deemed valid. I have a bar chart in a report which displays this data by product. After some fiddling it works...

Report that only includes populated fields

@theDBguy Any idea why it would behave like this? I know the "Can Shrink" method wasn't your solution but I would hazard a guess that you know approx. 1,000,000 times what I do about Access! The report displays perfectly in Report view but this is not replicated in the print or pdf

Report that only includes populated fields

Strange now, the "Can Shrink" method works when I view the report in Report mode. However when I print or export as pdf the blank fields aren't visible but the "Can Shrink" doesn't appear to work, as in I am left with blank spaces.

Report that only includes populated fields

I have no problem making the report which shows all the fields. I just want some of them to only be added to the report if the field is populated. Don't want a load of empty fields. From what I can find online it may be necessary to create the entire report using VBA. There doesn't seem to be a...

Report that only includes populated fields

Thanks for the reply. I have several other reports using the same fields so I don't think there is an issue with the tables. I just need a way to only include fields which are populated and leave out blank ones. However I want the formatting of the report to dynamically adjust depending on the...

Report that only includes populated fields

Hi all. Is there any way to have Access generate a custom report including only the fields that are populated in a form? I have a form to log customer product quality complaints with a subform that has 20 different fields to record the results of quality control testing of the suspect product...
