txt file field DDMMYYYY fails to import into Access'07, but OK in 2003

The Date bit is reasonably easy, but you will need to use an intermediate table. Your data is first imported into the intermediate table, and then you should run an append query to copy it into the main (cumulative) table: this table would have same fields as in the intermediate one, plus one...

txt file field DDMMYYYY fails to import into Access'07, but OK in 2003

Fair cop Brian. It works in 2007 as well as 2003, so that's now three ways (and counting?) how to handle it! Benjy

txt file field DDMMYYYY fails to import into Access'07, but OK in 2003

Isn't it funny how it always seems better when you find out that it isn't only you who is having the same problem? I'm not familiar with having to manipulate the format of date data (because previously Access used to handle it for me without me having to worry about it), but I think your...

txt file field DDMMYYYY fails to import into Access'07, but OK in 2003

Sorry, Pat, I wasn't using the correct words. As you say, Access 2003 won't do it completely automatically. You have to to set up the import spec properly (date separator = [blank], 4 digit years, preceding zeros). Provided you have done that then it will do the rest - import a text string...

txt file field DDMMYYYY fails to import into Access'07, but OK in 2003

Apologies, I should have posted the response I received from Microsoft...but since there had been wall of indifference on this forum I had presumed that no-one was interested. Basically, Microsoft came back to me to say that this was a known problem, but with no idea of when it might be fixed...

txt file field DDMMYYYY fails to import into Access'07, but OK in 2003

Thanks for your interest, Pat. I wasn't quite sure about importing the specifications - I never thought that I would have had to. So I've just done another test, created a 2003 databse containing an import spec (which imports these ddmmyyy dates OK), and converted it to 2007 without any other...

    convert date to YYYY/MM/DD

Thank you anyway for your reply Neil. Gemma - I'm beginning to sort of agree with your conclusion...but it is frustrating that Access 97 and 2003 had no problem with dates in this format. If 2007 really doesn't like txt dates in ddmmyyyy format then I've got to redesign a lot of databases, and...

    convert date to YYYY/MM/DD

I'm really, really sorry to crash into this thread, but I'm so envious at all the good advice that is being given.....and yet I've also got a wierd problem with dates and Access 2007 and NOT ONE reply to my post of 1st April in the General forum! Neil, Gemma, Bob and Bob - any chance of you...

txt file field DDMMYYYY fails to import into Access'07, but OK in 2003

Hi there anyone and everyone. My problem concerns importing a date from a txt file. I've been doing this for years with '97 and 2003 with no problem, but with 2007 I am now getting import errors which I can't resolve. The files, either fixed width or delimited, contain date information in the...
