    Question Shortcut no longer works

Thank you for your reply, David! Yes, the new hard drive is only on my/local machine. The location of the BE file, workgroup and front end have not changed (the front end was never on my machine). The path of the shortcut is the same - it just doesn't work on the new hard drive (but continues...

    Question Shortcut no longer works

Our database is split, and my shortcut has been working just fine for years (going through the program to the .mde and on through the workgroup). But since installing a new hard drive this weekend, the shortcut is broken. The names of all of the files and the drives and etc. are identical to...

I figured that's what you meant! :) Thanks for the input, Gemma. Pam

How much security do we really need?

I like that idea best of all, Banana. The GM did not want to have to log in every morning, (let alone after a period of being idle during the day) so that option wasn't an easy sell. And he has recently arranged for the ability to access his computer remotely from home, so now he leaves his...

How much security do we really need?

I just want to be smart - our db holds all of our proprietary recipes, some of which are patented. You just never know 'what evil lurks in the hearts of men' these days, unfortunately. But who would have thought I'd develop the db at home using Windows XP Professional, only to take it to the...

How much security do we really need?

Here are the two screens when you right click on the folder's properties, followed by the screen that I would use to change the folder properties - the 'Use simple file sharing (Recommended)' line would be just below where my screen ends. Thanks in advance for ideas, advice, direction, etc. Pam

How much security do we really need?

:(I think I am going to cry . . . I have a nice, big, NTFS file location set up, ready to go, only to discover we run on Windows XP HOME EDITION (which must have come with the Dell computers the company purchased years ago) so I still can't utilize Permissions. The Security tab is not...

Sounds like a plan - thanks so much!!

How much security do we really need?

Thanks. I'm still bummed though! I think I'll look into NTFS more, thinking that maybe I can create a new logical drive in a separate partition. That way I can be the boss, and put the db there but with a different (NTFS) file system. And after all the design, development, and testing - I...

How much security do we really need?

I am so frustrated. I just spent my whole weekend learning about then diagramming what I needed to do to use Microsoft Permissions . . . only to come in this morning and discover our files at work, unlike ours at home, are formatted in a FAT file system rather than NTFS so it appears there is...

How much security do we really need?

I'll read up on that method now - it sure beats the hassles I've had with the ULS (locked myself out more than once and had to start over - NOT WORTH IT!) and having to add passwords, travel through the right workgroup, etc. Yes - all I'm concerned about is keeping everyone EXCEPT the GM and I...

How much security do we really need?

Our db is ready for use, replacing the former dBase system. There are only two of us in the office - I am the db developer and the GM will use it to update records and print reports. This is easily accomplished from the Switchboard (so he doesn't ever need to see anything else). The db...

Trouble bringing in a calculation from main report to use in subreport

You solved the calculation problem! :) Hallelujah!!!!!! I don't think I can say 'thank you' enough! I really appreciate your sticking with me, especially after I told you that parent.text90+totalunitcost did NOT work for me! NOW (insert an embarrassed face here) I understand/see why it did not...

Trouble bringing in a calculation from main report to use in subreport

I hope I haven't eliminated anything you need to see to be able to help . . . but I am so new at this 'stripped down version zip file' thing! Here's hoping . . . and thank you again.

Trouble bringing in a calculation from main report to use in subreport

Thanks, Ray. But alas, no - that didn't work either. I don't know if this helps pinpoint my problem any better, but I get '#Error' for the calculation when the subreport is viewed from the open Main Report, and '#Name?' when it is viewed on the open subreport.

Trouble bringing in a calculation from main report to use in subreport

Still not getting the calculated total from main report to use in subreport Thank you so much for taking the time to help me! Unfortunately, this did not work either (and the spaces were eliminated!). The control name for the working calculation on the Main Report is 'Text90', and the...

Need to set criteria for subreport

That was a huge help, thanks - but I also had not linked the fields properly in the query. Going through the steps to link the Master/Child Fields I made the discovery! Thanks so much.

Trouble bringing in a calculation from main report to use in subreport

I can bring in the ingredient weight from the main form and add it to the container weight inside the subreport. But I get a #Name? error when I try to use the calculated cost of raw materials from my main form to add to the container cost within my subreport (which brings in the three or four...

Need to set criteria for subreport

I have a report showing the ingredients in each finished product with associated costs, weight, etc. Now I need to bring in the containers -each finished product has from one to four container possibilities. Everything I've tried (subreports, queries, etc.) lists every single container, either...

Question Need to link one item with two different categories

Thank you Ross and Mr. B! My existing recipe table is similar to what you describe, linking the finished products to the ingredients themselves. I guess I was too focused on keeping the containers separate from the recipes, and wanting them to simply be 'added' in the end, hoping for a quick...
