Feeding data to the right bits

Thats something I didn't know! Thanks. The macro just made more sense to me for some reason.

Feeding data to the right bits

Update - I appear to have worked it out. I ended up applying a where clause to an open report macro button limiting the results to the data from the form the button was on. It also helps that I started using the right tables in the where clauses (I was trying to filter a report which I hadn't...

What have I done Wrong? form to report adventures.

Not my good coding skills, my good cut and paste skills. But coding has helped me work out WHAT each line does.

What have I done Wrong? form to report adventures.

I am getting slightly confused again. The code as I have it (even though the reports don't utilise the ID number) should generate the report I want even though I don't have those ID's in the report just the words?

What have I done Wrong? form to report adventures.

Ok....so I set up my form - setting the unbound combo boxes to display the strings but not the identifiers from a query NOT the table?. From that I pass the unseen identifier back to that bit of VBA coding I have above to generate my report? Or do I have to pass the identifier back to a...

What have I done Wrong? form to report adventures.

Hmmmm - this means a bit of tweaking I think.....I will need to mask the drop down boxes so that the user sees the words not the numbers, and then feed that into a query and then into the report. Is this thinking right? Or have I gone and overcomplicated it again?

What have I done Wrong? form to report adventures.

They are strings in the drop down boxes, BUT their unique identifiers are numbers....so should I be searching by the ID numbers NOT the strings?

Nah - though working in a rural clinical school based in a small hospital makes the potential to GET valium very high!

What have I done Wrong? form to report adventures.

Using advice from the very helpful people on this forum and some other sources I have managed to get this far with my form to report adventures. I have written this bit of VB code which SHOULD run when I hit the button that says generate report. The report should generate based on the answers...

    Tables for a Register...

nope - I can do switchboards! I just want suggestions as to if the tables seem adequate for what I want to do. Investigators = Researchers tables- forgot to mention that so I have done that already. Location is a separate table as is discipline. The only one that isn't is student type - which...

    Tables for a Register...

Hi, the ever helpful VbaInet suggested that I post here for some advice about a database I am setting up. I foolishly didn't map the thing out before I started, so am now trying to pull it all together. I am trying to set up a research register for our clinical school. I currently have the...

Feeding data to the right bits

Thanks, if my high school IT teacher knew I had attempted this without mapping he would have my head! Come to think of it my old boss would have as well. I suspect I have also over complicated things (as is my want). I deleted a table today when I realised it was easier to just have all the...

Feeding data to the right bits

That makes sense. Sorry, its been a long week with panicking students on a Friday making it seem even longer. I have printed out the link you pointed me to, and am going to sit down on monday, with email turned off and phone off the hook and translate it so it reflects the names I am using for...

Feeding data to the right bits

Yeah I did. I was getting myself confused - and am still a little confused, but have printed the page out and am going to attempt it later on today. not 100% sure if it will give me what I want as I am not necessarily using summaries (unless you are calling drop down lists the summary). Will...

Feeding data to the right bits

Ok - so going on my new thinking I need to go Form with drop down to get where clause ----> feed to query which selects everything in the table and uses the answer from the from to generate the where clause -----> Report based on Query. But I cant work out which order I need to make this all...

Feeding data to the right bits

Thank you! I think this should work - but I realised the easier way is to restrict the selection to ONE of the variables at a time. Also means I wont get the anguished "BUT I AM NOT GETTING ANY RESULTS" phone calls and emails.

Feeding data to the right bits

I am in the process of setting up a research register for work. Its fairly simple, in that it has a couple of tables (Investigator, disciple, sub discipline, site, and project info) and a couple of switchboards (essentially Add and search). I am trying to remember how to set up a report, so that...
