Riots in Totenham

What is causing the riots in London. We thought London is a very peaceful place where everyone gets along with everyone else. Sorry to see such riots in London? Did the economic problems trigger it? Hope things get back to normal soon.

Re: Riots in Tottenham

Now I am seeing on TV that the riots are spreading to other parts of London and also to other cities in UK. Some of the scenes are very disturbing. Hope things get under control soon.

Re: Riots in Totenham

Looks like the authorities are no longer the deciding force in those cities. Perhaps they need to put a bit better reaction time and a bit more force into handling these terrorists.

Re: Riots in Totenham

Allegedly it was started as a protest against some drug dealer being shot by the police. Personally, I think it's just an excuse to steal and destroy. There doesn't appear to be any "agenda" further than to bring anarchy to their own doors. Some of the youths were complaining that there is little to no opportunity for them in this country. Perhaps they should follow in their parents'/grandparents' footsteps and emigrate then?

Re: Riots in Totenham

Good news is that the situation is under control as of today (listening to TV news). Sounds like the parental authority (over the criminal youths) are minimal or non-existent. How about enforcing some needed punishment, rather than finding excuses for the criminal youth's behavior?

Re: Riots in Totenham

And so, it begins.

The darkness is descending upon mankind. We have grown our populations too large and concentrated too much in the cities.

Throughout history we have been warned time and time again. But still we forget.

Move to the country folks, learn to grow your own food, learn to make your own energy.

We are standing on the forward edge of the coming Phoenix.

Then again rioting is nothing new. Occurred occasionally in ancient Rome. Occurs today in many North American hockey games.

Re: Riots in Totenham

Congratulations to Prime Minister David Cameron for standing up to the criminal thugs and bringing the situation under control. He did not give the far left liberal politicians a chance to unload their usual stuff. Now, these thugs have criminal records, will not be able to get jobs in the future. Keep up the good work, Mr. Cameron. Hope you all can have a normal life in UK now.

Cameron didn't have anything to do with it, heavy rain and boredom played a bigger part

Which means that the only thing left to them is to (continue) to live on benefits and/or become bigger criminals.

We should have just shot the B*&^%$"!

It was odd to see the looters queueing up in an orderly fashion to loot a shop though. A bit like queueing for a bus. Only in Britain eh?

Cameron is still cutting 18,000 police officers jobs, plus closing 181 police stations and cutting 16,100 back-up staff. So much for being on the side of the police. (source Daily Mirror 17/8/11)

I can see it'll be down to vigilante householders to protect the streets and their homes.

And with the guns they keep in their homes, it should be easy... oh wait...

But if he's like anyone else, he'll be happy to take the credit. Maybe he'll claim to have control of the weather.
