Open source database use is a growing trend

"Study shows that more users are using open source software for data management, with most organizations using more than one technology to help meet different needs."

But, then (as this article notes) this is not a neutral analysis: "Given that the study was conducted by vendor that supports open source databases."

Nevertheless, is this a valid trend and what would the implications be for Access?

It's definitely a growing trend. Students are learning with open source software more than monetized software. I've seen more than one resume that lists more open source db and reporting tools from new graduates than monetized.

Given the difficulties we have seen for alternate vendors to provide something as robust as Access (that is a COMPARATIVE, not an absolute "robust"), I wouldn't worry too much.
