Hi

Since reinstalling a fresh copy of Windows, Office etc, I no longer have the 'Run as administrator' option when I right click on the Access 2010 desktop shortcut.

I have tried repairing Office 2010 but that didn't solve it.

Its present for Access 2016 which I also have installed:

Please could someone who does have this context menu option for Access 2010 do a registry search for the locations of a key value 'Run as administrator' so I can add it manually

I have 4 locations currently:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Launcher.AllAppsDesktopApplication\Shell\RunAs (as shown above)

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Launcher.DesktopPackagedApplication\Shell\runas

Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Local Settings\MuiCache\63\417C44EB

Computer\HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2630044322-3331262941-1080539148-1001_Classes\Local Settings\MuiCache\63\417C44EB

N.B. There isn't a space before the h in Launcher - glitch in forum software

BTW - having 2 versions of Access isn't the reason for this issue.
Both versions were installed and both had this option before reinstalling Windows.
It IS possible to run 2 different versions of Access as long as you take care over VBA references that are version specific

Have you tried on the actual program, I can't run as administrator from a shortcut, but can if I right click on the MSACCESS.EXE application itself?

Thanks for that Minty

I had previously found that tried modifying the existing shortcut but Run as admin is also disabled when I click on the Advanced button

However after posting, I also made a shortcut from the program file & found that did work - most peculiar.

Would still like the right click context option back however
May try reinstalling Office 2010 if nobody can assist with registry keys

Have done a quick Google search but nothing of use so far

Colin,

I only have 2007 but have found other locations, you might be able to work from?
Files are numbered in the order located.
Had to zip the exports as some too large as text.

Recreate the shortcut from scratch?

Out of curiosity, what version of Windows are you using?

This issue seems to affect Office 2010 programs only on my PC.
Other shortcuts aren't affected i.e. they have the context menu item

Stranger and stranger...
In Windows 10, if you right click on any Office 2010 shortcut in the Start menu, the Run as administrator option IS available
Now copy the same shortcut to the desktop and right click - its missing again

Anyway, I've found a workround for this issue which is OK ...at least for now..

Hold the Shift key down whilst you right click on a shortcut
The missing 'Run as administrator' context menu item appears!

UPDATE
If you make a new desktop shortcut from the MSAccess.exe program file, that also has the context menu item
So it appears to be an issue with the shortcuts created when Office 2010 is installed

AND if anyone is still awake and wondering why it matters to me ....

Running Access as an administrator allows you to do various things not normally possible

For example:
a) write to the HKLM hive of the registry (in normal Access mode, only the HKCU hive can be modified) - VERY useful for distributed applications
b) provide an extra level of security e.g. prevent a settings form being opened or the navigation pane being displayed unless run as administrator
