Tips we forget - required fields

Or perhaps it should be 'tips I'd forgotten'

Prompted by another post on this forum, in an idle moment I dug out some of my early applications and was reminded of this tip

The format property has four states positive;negative;zero;text - and nulls are interpreted as text

so for required fields for example, format the relevant control as
;;;[Red]"This field is REQUIRED"

acts as a reminder to users (still doesn't take away the need to verify it has been completed)

Re: Tips we forget - required fields

Interesting; I knew about and have used the 4 states, but never thought to use them like that. Nice one. I assume that would only work for a numeric field? I use Conditional Formatting to highlight required but not yet complete fields.

Do you tell the mechanic about your car "it doesn't work" or vague stuff like:
I couldn't, No joy, To no avail, No go
, Incorrect, Wrong, Seems, Without success, It didn't let me, I/it failed.

Do tell us what did happen
:

I want this ... to happen, I attempted this ..., using this ... code and pressing these buttons, the system did this ... in response, and I got this ... error in this ... line.

Did it help? Pass it forward!
