All,

I am appending an existing Access table from an Excel spreadsheet.

I get the following error messages:

"subscript out of range"

"type conversion failure" Field F7 Row 14
"type conversion failure" Field F7 Row 15
"type conversion failure" Field F6 Row 24
"type conversion failure" Field F7 Row 24
"type conversion failure" Field F6 Row 25

I am importing to rows of Excel data. Row 1 contains Col/Field names and Row 2 is the data (1 access record).

Does Field F7 mean field number 7 when you look in the design view of the table and Does row refer to the Excel row?

Can I print out all of my Access field names with the data types?

You can go to Tools -> Analyze -> Documenter, place a tick next to the table you wish and click ok

i am on Access 2003 and on this version you do not need to select the data type, you only have to select the table and once you click ok, the data type for each field will be available on the report created.

All,

I have now manage to print a report of all the data types and compared them will my Excel file. Everything seems to match up, BUT I am still getting the same errors.

Can anyone help me interprete the error messages?

F6 and F7 refer to columns 6 and 7 on the spreadsheet

rows 14,15 etc are inconsistent (perhaps blank, or the wrong type)
Access assumes the data type from the first row of the spreadsheet, and sometimes makes a mistake! its not easy obvious how to overcome this mis-typing, so let ius know if thats the issue
