The following question/answer were posted on this forum for an earlier version of Access. I have the same question, but for Access 2010; is there a comparable answer for Access 2010? I haven't found the answer searching through Access options or on the web.

Question:
Find and replace default settings
Is there any way to change the default settings on the Find and Replace dialog from 'Whole field' to 'Any part of field'?

Answer:
Tools | Options
Click on Edit/Find tab.
There is a section called Default find/replace behavior.
Click the General search radio button.

Thanks very much in advance for your reply.

Thanks so much for the quick reply - I wasn't looking closely enough under Access options so thanks for pointing this out.

You were correct, except in Access 2010 you have to look under File, Options, Client Settings - Editing, Default find/replace behavior. The three choices are:

Fast search -
Look in: Current field
Match: Whole Field
Search Fields as Formatted

General search
Look in: Current document
Match: Any Part of Field

Start of field search
Look in: Current field
Match: Start of Field
Search Fields as Formatted

All three choices have:
Search: All
Not checked - Match Case

Unfortunately, you are not able to customize these completely as you want. For example, I think I would like to look in current field, and match any part of field, but that is not one of the choices.

You have to restart Access for changes to take place.

Hope that's of any help to anyone else.

Thanks for help. Answer right on the money.

You're welcome. I contribute so little and receive so much help that I'm glad someone could use the information!

I know it is a long time since, but thanks. I've been looking for this quite a while and haven't been able to score - til now.
