Hi folks looking for some help with PDF attachments /uploads

I have always tried to link to attachment documentation rather than importing it and am fairly comfortable with that approach primarily to avoid database bloating.

However I have now been asked for a database ( Access 2010) that involves a lot of diagrams, pdf's and other schemeatics and whilst I can link to these as above I will need to bring them in for various reports that are emailed to customers.

Does anyone have any experience with using external attachments in reports or within Access 2010 is there anything that avoids the bloating issue.

My preference would be to bring them into the database but I have a real fear of performance issues down the line.

Thanks in anticipation

I concur with the idea of just storing the path to external files, not actually importing to the new field type. When sending email you just specify the path to the desired file so sending the attachment should not be a problem.

I have a database that automates reports in PDF format to specific folders on a shared drive. If formated correctly with a generic font (arial, times new roman, etc...) you can get the file down to a really small size (10-15kb)
