Hi -

I've built many small/simple databases in Access before but just built my first relatively complex one through the help of a lot of online tutorials and forums like this one!

It has a bunch of tables/queries/forms etc that I don't want my users to see or be able to manipulate... not because of confidential data but just because I don't want them accidentally messing anything up. There are about 4 or 5 objects that I want users to have access to, to either write or read data.

So I've used databases before that have some sort of "welcome" or "startup" screen with links/buttons to open specific items (tables/queries/forms/reports) but keep the others hidden. (not necessarily securely protected; just hidden... but if it was securely protected that would be OK) What is this startup screen called... and can anyone point me in the direction of a good guide to building it?

Thank you!

Have a look at the article here.

Also search this forum on the subject of securing/protecting your DB.

Thanks... your post hides certain objects, which is part of what I was looking for. The main part of what I was actually looking for how is to set up the "switchboard" --- and I found it... In Access 2010 it seems to be called a "Navigation form." In case anyone else has the same question I wanted to post the link but I can't. So here's the next best thing:

google ms access 2010 create switchboard

I used the article from Microsoft Office, Access 2007 Help and How to for how to create a switchboard in 2007.

There's a link to a video in the sidebar of that page that shows you how to create the "navigation form" in 2010.

I found the answer in another forum; here you are
Are you talking about?

Office button > Access Options > Current Database > Display Form

Hope that helps...
