ALL,

i'm trying to rename a folder on machine by right clicking, typing a letter and pushing enter. after enter, I get:

accessdenied.jpg

not sure what the problem is. the folder is not hidden, no permissions have been changed from the default. other folders in the list also have the same attrib's i can see, but renaming is fine. i'm on vista and 64 bit. anyone have any ideas on what problem crept in here? thanks

You're the administrator right?

hey you guys. i checked on both these suggestions, and everything seems hunky dory. the only other thing I can think of is that I have shortcuts to this folder elsewhere on my drive. could that be preventing name changes?

I wouldn't see why that would be the case. But if some PROCESS has something IN the folder in use then you would not be able to rename it.

kick me in the head pls.

i was downloading something to the folder and didn't know it.

Consider it a miracle that this is your only issue!

Vista and especially Windows 7 introduced so many new "features" for file and folder "ownership" and "sharing" that it's really bogged down and difficult to produce the desired results in every scenario. I've locked myself out of many folders in Windows 7 due to losing ownership and no longer having Access, when I'm an administrator! Of course I could still take ownership back and give myself permission again, but that's more of a pain than it has to be. They should have seriously thought it out that an administrator should have supreme rights to all folders, regardless of ownership or access permissions.
