Hello,

Today I have been experiencing a problem trying to open Access.

If if selected either a shortcut to a database I often use or select Access from the Start Menu (All Programs) my PC would freeze. The CPU usage would rise to 100% and I could do nothing apart from unplug and take the battery out to close down.

This only happened in Access and not in any other Microsoft or other programs.

I undertook a repair using my install disc and when that did not work an uninstall and reinstall. This did not work.

However, I have found if I select 'open an office file' and select and Access database, I can open any Access file correctly and once open I can close and open access from the Start Menu as one should.

Once I close down my PC and re-start I am back to the original problem and I can only unplug, restart and launch Access through 'open an office file'.

Has any one come across this befor or have any suggestions on how I could resolve this. I use Access 2003.

Thanks in anticipation of your assistance.

Linda

Are you running Vista?? I don't have conditions with the issues, but my program stops responding, usually when I open it or try to save objects. It's just annoying right now...I'm not sure if this article applies or not, but one of these days I'll get around to it...

Do you happen to have the program Pointsec on your system?

Pointsec shouldn't cause any issues. It's just real-time encryption software. We use it at work (where I program almost exclusively in Access) and have no such strange issues.

I don't know what his issue is, but Pointsec would be the least of the concerns IMO.

Thank you for you replies.

I am not on Vista. I am using Windows XP Pro & do not have Pointsec.

Any further help you can offer would be appreciates as i am still experiencing the problems.
