Access form to lookup sql table and update another table

I am new to access, and am having trouble creating a form. I need the form to reference 1 sql table for name, rank, assignment, etc, in order to display on the form and not update, and then on a sub form to update certifications, certification dates, expire dates etc on a different sql table.

I hope that makes sense. I appreciate any help with this, been stuck for a while now. Thanks, again,
