Hey,

I'm recently starting a new job and one of my tasks is to clean up their Access 2000 database. After looking through it and realizing how much crap there is in it, I was thinking about starting a new one for them from scratch. I was wondering if there are any pros/cons to redeveloping the database in 2003 verses 2000. Its a pretty small company with usually about 6 people concurrently working on it throughout the day.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

The question is whether the other 6 people will have their own copies of Ac2003 when you are done.

There is nothing wrong with redeveloping it in the same version they will be using in production.

As to pros and cons,...

PRO: Cleaning up a database removes schmutz that tends to impair your performance tremendously.

CON: You need to have help in verifying that what you removed was really schmutz (Yiddish translation of schmutzprovided on request.)

PRO: Cleaning up a database helps you understand what it really does.

CON: Did you really care?

PRO: Cleaning up a medium to large database that is very important to a small business is very often a good idea just to conserve resources.

CON: Cleaning up a small to medium database that is not very important to a big business might be a waste of resources.

the only pro I know of with access2003 is the backwards compatibility with access97... course Im a newb and I am still learning.
