Adding Criteria on from Form Input (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone,

Having a tough time figuring out how to add additional criteria from the input a user gives from the form.

[Forms]![Search Guests Form]![Surname]

I would like to search surnames that only begin with a starting letter from the user input.

I tried Like "[Forms]![Search Guests Form]![Surname]*" but this didn't work. I'm sure it's an easy fix but any help would be appreciated!

It keeps putting Where [Surname] in the field section and the Like [Forms]![Search Guests Form]![Surname] & "*" in the criteria area

Is this normal? Sorry I'm really new to access

where are you trying to put this, if Query that is correct?
