Hi friends
I have a Access application that references to ADO Recordset & ADO version 2.8 libraries in a xpWin SP2 and XP Office SP3 environment.

When the same run in another PC with similar xpWin & XP Office, the references to version 2.8 libraries are missing.

I tried copying all files eg 536,576 msado15.dll 57,344 msador15 from Program Files/Common Files/System/ADO from the PC that has 2.8 to the other but the latter still shows the same old version of 2.5 or 2.6.

Please enlighten why and how I can add the 2.8 version to the 2nd PC. THANKS!!!

You're sure that both computers have had the exact same updates? Make sure that all of the Windows Updates have been done.

By the way, I don't believe just copying files would work as the whole MDAC needs to be installed, but you can try copying MSADO28.tlb (which is the file that my computer shows as being the file used with the ADO 2.8 reference) into that folder.

Dear Bob
Thanks for yr quick response & continuing the tinkering..

U are right that simple copying won't work because certain files in use are protected from being overidden. However I copied using NTFSPRO in Dos mode. By copying the version went up one step from 2.5 to 2.6 but not 2.8 but the application faces more problems of unresolved code errors.

Further u are right right that the win updates are not similar; the 2nd PC don't have SP2 for winXP. I will tried the SP2 xpwin update & will keep u posted on the result.

For yr info the PC that has version 2.8 don't have MSADO28.tlb, the last is MSADO27.tlb in Program Files/Common Files/System/ADO; hence the question where did PC get its version 2.8?

Cheers, thanks again!!

Also the MDAC is a whole update. You can't install part of it. I believe that 2.8 is installed with XP SP2.

Strange thing that one, but maybe what I had is due to my Office 2007 or Windows Vista.

Dear Bob
U are right! With SP2 of XPWin installed version 2.8 appears. Thanks

Now on a slight diversion. On a PC with Win2k+SP4 with XP Office (2002) + SP3, ADO version goes up to only 2.6... How to install 2.8 on it ?

Is there a download to install the last Ms Data Access components?
Cheers!

Dear Bob
Finally I downloaded MDAC_TYP.EXE & ran it in Win2k, WinME & Win98SE; all of them now have ADO's v2.8. However the ado files in ..system/ado are different in size & dates from XPWin SP2 OS. Hence copying does not work, I think.
Cheers!

but... WinME & Win98SE nows develop problem with the recordset being automatically being disconnected!!!
Tried replacing a newer mscal.ocx in W..\system as suggested in another forum and it did not worked. The problem: On an opened recordset, after referring to the value of the recordset once, on trying to refer to another value, the automation disconnected message appears.

FINAL SOLUTION - PERIOD

No more disconnect problems for Win98SE & WinME after installing MDAC.EXE SP1.

The disconnect problem occurred (without fail) in sessions where the BackEnd .mdb files is mapped to another PC in the Peer-to-Peer work
Group or in a Domain with the Front End .mdb is in Win98SE or WinME OS that has MDAC.EXE Version 2.8. installed. Problem do not occur to BackEnd .mdb on the same PC with the FrontEnd.
