Welcome to my rant thread.
I have found Excel 2010 to be absolutely maddening from time to time. It usually has to do with something like not being able to find certain features in the new setup or the like. The most recent issue comes from the use of charts.
I use the OFFSET function to define a named range and then use that name as the data reference for charts. In doing this, I can create rolling charts that update automatically when I add data to my spreadsheet. I created numerous files in Excel 2003 and was content with the results.
<<<insert ominous evil musical theme here>>>
Then, I upgraded to Excel 2010. It took me a long time to find the information I needed to be able to perform this same function in the new version. There's an extra layer necessary in the chart dialog to see the data definition (the EDIT button), and it took me several tries over a period of time in going through the HELP function to find out how I could even see named range definitions, let alone create a new one (Formulas - Name Manager).
I'd like to hear some stories from others on difficulties encountered and overcome. I've attached my example file on the auto-updating charts, in case anyone is interested. I use this file in teaching how to create the charts.
Thanks for your input.
