Alternative to Append/Delete queries?

hi - currently i have an append and delete queries to first put cars that are "sold" into the soldcars table. then i run a query to delete this car from the cars table.
problem is, i have invoice for all these cars. when i delete the car from the cars table - the invoice goes too! i would really like to keep the sold and current cars separate - however, after an invoice has been created - the car has changed its status from Available to Sold.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would not maintain two separate tables to reflect which cars were sold or unsold.

I would add a new field to my cars tables to refelct the cars' status;
Sold, Unsold, etc. etc.
